Most people know The Stewpot for meals and housing. But walk into the art studio on any given week and you'll find something else entirely.

Neighbors painting. Writing. Telling their own stories, in their own words, through STREETZine and the Writers Workshop. Last year, neighbor artists generated $33,133 in art sales, with 90% going directly to the artists themselves.

That's what your spring gift makes possible. Not just services, but a space where neighbors are seen as the creative, capable people they are.

James knows what that feels like. Read his story at the link below and see how you can be part of it.

The Stewpot has partnered with The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center since 2008, operating meal services at the Second Chance Cafe. In that time, Brenda Snitzer and Dr. David Woody III have built a profoundly personal professional relationship.

Because what we do at The Stewpot is personal.

So at his retirement celebration last week, Brenda wanted the gift to carry some weight. She presented Dr. Woody with a canvas print by Stewpot Art Program artist Leon Pollard, a cityscape of Dallas made by an artist who once slept on those streets underneath those very landmarks, given to a leader who devoted his career to serving people on them. And Dr. Woody knew Leon.

"Just a little reminder of how much you're loved by the city of Dallas," Brenda said.

We're grateful for Dr. Woody, for The Bridge, and for the years of shared work. Congratulations on a remarkable career. We can't wait to see what you do next.

We have some exciting news to share.

Brenda Snitzer, our Executive Director, has been named a finalist for Leadership Excellence (Mega Nonprofit) in the D CEO and Communities Foundation of Texas Nonprofit & Corporate Citizenship Awards 2026.

Brenda would be the first to tell you that leadership at The Stewpot isn’t carried by one person. It lives in the people who serve meals, run programs, sit with neighbors in hard moments, and keep showing up. This recognition points back to all of them.

Nearly 900 organizations and leaders were nominated across North Texas this year. We’re proud to be among the finalists and grateful for this community that makes the work possible.
Winners are announced July 23. We’ll keep you posted.

“I am deeply grateful for everything you all have done—and continue to do—for my children. This program has been a wonderful blessing for both them and me. As a single mother, I have received an immense amount of support, and the scholarship has been a tremendous help to my children...Thank you so much for everything.”

Three siblings. All three went through The Stewpot’s Children, Youth and Family Program. David is graduating from TCU this year as a Stewpot scholarship recipient. Diana is a current scholarship recipient, also at TCU. And this spring, Dania graduates high school — and joins them both on campus in the fall.

One family. One program. Three Horned Frogs and brighter futures. 🎓🤘

Soup’s On is coming. 🍲

The 19th annual Soup’s On Luncheon & Art Show returns February 1, 2027 at Thompson Dallas, and sponsorships are now available.

Last year, Soup’s On raised $600,000. That’s people formerly living on the streets now with a place to call home. Families who didn’t know where their next meal was coming from, stocking their fridges with groceries. Neighbors working toward stable lives with a Case Manager walking alongside them every step of the way. That’s what a seat at this table makes possible.

Partnering with us at Soup’s On means your name — and your investment — is behind all of it. Opportunities range from $1,200 to $75,000, with benefits including event recognition, reserved tables, dedicated social posts, and more.

Some of these kids were in elementary school when they first walked through our doors. This month, we celebrated them as high school graduates.

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the moms who showed up…through every hard year, every homework session, every college visit…and the young people heading to UT Austin, Davidson College, TCU, Dallas Baptist University, and beyond this fall.

Our Children, Youth, and Family program has been walking alongside these families for years. Building friendships. Building confidence. Building a future.

To these moms and our moms with children in the program: what you invested in your kids shows.

Find out more about our Children, Youth, and Family Program and get involved at thestewpot.org.

Happy Mother’s Day. 🎓

The plastic bag collection under your sink is out of control. We know. We get it. 😅

Good news: we want them. Every bag you drop off at The Stewpot goes straight to our pantry, where we use them to bag groceries for our neighbors.

Grab that crinkly chaos and bring it to us. Plastic or reusable — we’ll take both.

Last week, 200+ volunteers showed up, and our neighbors felt every bit of it. 🩵

Barbecue, burgers, and hot dogs from for unhoused neighbors. Snack bags packed. Hygiene kits made. Kids with painted faces. Cotton candy. Laughter. Games. And the best part? Neighbors and volunteers just sitting together, talking.

That’s Love Your Neighbor Week. That’s what The Stewpot is. It’s about relationships.

If you were there — thank you. You gave your time, your energy, and you were present.

And if you missed it, there’s always a next time. Come be part of what our community is building.
