Juliette Fowler Communities

Juliette Fowler Communities JFC is a faith-centered senior living community and nonprofit serving multiple generations since 1892

In the late 1880s, Juliette Peak Fowler dreamed of building a facility to care for aged and orphans. She traveled throughout the country researching social service facilities, but died before launching her dream. Her will specified that 15 ½ acres of East Dallas land that she had purchased and a trust fund she had established were to be used for the benefit of widows and orphaned children. Through

this act of benevolence, Juliette has been identified by The Dallas Morning news as Dallas' first major philanthropist. Her sister, Sarah Peak Harwood fulfilled Juliette's dream and chartered The Juliette Fowler Home for Children and the Aged in 1892 as a nonprofit in the state of Texas. In 1903, she created a formal association with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a relationship that remains in tact today. The first home for children, opened in 1904 in Grand Prairie. Harwood Hall, the first permanent structure on the East Dallas property, began housing elders in 1911. In 1913 the children's program moved to the East Dallas location, thus fulfilling Juliette's vision for an intergenerational community. Juliette Fowler Communities' services have grown and evolved as the needs of society have changed. Today Juliette Fowler Communities includes twenty five acres, more than 150 team members, and serves more than 450 children, youth, and elders annually from the East Dallas location at 1234 Abrams.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. 💛

Difficult emotions show up for all of us in different ways and at different times. They deserve space and attention, but they don’t have to take over your entire day.

We loved this simple reminder from Inspiring Insight about small ways to pause, reset, and care for yourself in the middle of hard moments.

For additional support and resources, we also encourage exploring the work of Dr. Kristin Neff and the Self-Compassion Institute: https://self-compassion.org/

We’re so thankful for our friends at PMG and the time they shared with our community during their recent Giving Day. 💙

Their team spent the day serving residents and teammates across campus through crafts, games, Bingo, campus improvement projects, and helping hands wherever needed.

We are always grateful for the time PMG spends with residents and teammates each year!

We’re so thankful for the student interns who spent this school year learning and serving alongside our teams at Fowler. 💙

This year, Skyline High School students pursuing careers in the medical field interned with residents and staff at Fowler Christian Apartments and The Peak. We also had the joy of hosting Woodrow Wilson High School Special Education interns, who supported our Environmental Services teams across several areas of campus.

We are grateful for the care, positivity, and hard work these students brought to our community throughout the year!

Yesterday, Juliette Fowler Communities was delighted to host our volunteers for their end-of-year agency wrap-up for the 2026–2027 service year with the Dallas Service Forum. We so enjoyed a meaningful and fruitful conversation reflecting on the incredible impact this dedicated organization has made at Fowler over the past year.

Their support of the young women of Ebby House and our broader Fowler community has been extraordinary:

• 12 consistent months of Bingo Babes visits
• One wonderful provisional Christmas party for our seniors
• 24 homemade brunches lovingly prepared for Ebby House residents
• Countless holiday celebrations and special moments shared with the young women
• More than 400 hours of community service given throughout the year

We especially loved ending the visit by sharing the progress of the new Ebby House build site. Since the very beginning of the program in 2014, these women have poured tirelessly into supporting the mission and the young women we serve. Their steadfast partnership and annual support of programming have helped make this next chapter possible, and we are deeply grateful.

Thank you, Dallas Service Forum, for your compassion, consistency, and heart for our community.
