As former leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party, Stephen Lewis brought a fierce intelligence and eloquence to the political arena that elevated public discourse and challenged complacency. He possessed that rare ability to give voice to the aspirations of working people, to articulate injustice with precision, and to inspire collective action with words that resonated far beyond the moment in which they were spoken.
