For our readers and group members that want a little history.
Also, the new baskets have a water reservoir!

Last year (2025) the Downtown Crookston group took over the adopted hanging flower baskets project from the Chamber and went with the plan of the city watering (as they have for the the last decade) and using the Chamber’s local flower vendor. It was not a lucky year in 2025 with the wind storms, city lift breaking down, and the baskets left out for weeks without being maintained. Once the city hung them and began watering last year, it was too late for many of them. After last season was over, the Downtown Crookston group reached out for advice from experts and went out for bids for new more sustainable baskets and potential new flower providers. The University’s horticulture program won the bid and locked in an agreement. This year (2026) the city decided not to do any watering of any kind and did not allocate any funds to the Downtown Crookston group during their nonprofit request process. The DCDP was already locked in to their flower and basket agreement so the VOLUNTEERS took it upon themselves to agree to do the watering and maintenance this season. The adopted hanging baskets have been hung since Memorial Day, are watered every other day, and are assessed daily. You might see the volunteers early in the morning, mid morning, or in the evening. Hopefully this helps you understand. :)
