🌱 KYHA Board Member Nic Johnson from Black Barn Holdings was out getting fields prepped for spring planting.

He’s laying plastic and drip tape for irrigation, which many farmers use across a variety of crops. This helps with moisture retention, quality control, and of course, keeping weeds down.

It's great to see Kentucky farmers hard at work preparing for another growing season!

Any KYHA members who would like to share what they’re up to this spring, send us a message at info@kyh**passociation.org. We'd love to highlight your work and help showcase Kentucky's h**p community.

📅 Planted May 21, 2026

These young h**p plants may be small now, but they're entering a period of rapid growth. In the months ahead, they'll develop into CBD-rich plants that help support Kentucky's thriving h**p industry.

Every season begins with careful planning, hard work, and optimism for the future—and it's always exciting to see Kentucky farmers getting crops in the ground.

🚨 Federal H**p THC Ban Delay Amendments Blocked in Congress

Several proposed amendments that could have delayed or modified the upcoming federal restrictions on h**p-derived THC products were blocked from a vote in Congress.

Among the proposals were efforts to:
✔ Delay enforcement of the federal ban
✔ Protect access to h**p-derived products
✔ Clean up labeling and safety standards
✔ Provide businesses and farmers additional time to adapt

At KYHA, we believe that practical regulations, clear guidance, and fair market access are essential for supporting the long-term success of the h**p industry.

As policy discussions continue, we remain committed to advocating for Kentucky's h**p community and keeping our members informed on important legislative developments.

New research is showing just how far h**p innovation could go beyond traditional markets.

A recently published study highlights the potential of h**p-derived CBD to create high-performance, bio-based plastics that could one day rival petroleum-based materials used in packaging, automotive technology, electronics, and more.

Researchers developed a new CBD-based thermoplastic capable of withstanding high temperatures while maintaining strength and flexibility—opening the door to future industrial applications far beyond cannabinoids alone.

🌱 Why this matters:
✔️ Expands potential demand for h**p cultivation
✔️ Creates new industrial opportunities for farmers
✔️ Supports sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based plastics
✔️ Reinforces h**p’s role in the future of American manufacturing and agriculture

For Kentucky’s h**p industry, innovation like this demonstrates the long-term value and versatility of the crop—from field to advanced materials.

At the Kentucky H**p Association, we continue supporting education, innovation, and policies that help create sustainable opportunities for h**p growers and businesses.

🌱 H**p Seed Industry Faces Uncertainty Under Federal Changes

A h**p seed company in Maine says new federal h**p restrictions could force them to shut down later this year—highlighting growing concerns across the industry about how broad h**p regulations may unintentionally impact agriculture, seed suppliers, and small businesses.

North Atlantic Seed Company, which works with farmers and retailers nationwide, says the upcoming federal enforcement changes could classify many h**p seeds as illegal due to how the law defines h**p genetics and THC thresholds.

For many in the industry, this raises larger questions about:
• Seed access for farmers
• Supply chain stability
• Traceability challenges
• And how h**p regulations affect agriculture beyond finished products

As policy discussions continue, stories like this reinforce the importance of clear, practical, and science-based regulations that support innovation while protecting farmers and businesses.

At the Kentucky H**p Association, we will continue advocating for policies that recognize h**p as a legitimate agricultural crop and support the long-term sustainability of the industry.
