New research from the University of Kentucky is exploring how industrial h**p could fit into Kentucky’s agricultural systems—including its potential as a crop-rotation option and opportunities in fiber and grain production.

For Kentucky farmers, continued research matters. Understanding how h**p performs in different agricultural systems can help identify new opportunities for the crop and the farmers who grow it.

At KYHA, we believe the future of Kentucky h**p depends on farming, research, education, business, and continued collaboration.

🌱 The future of Kentucky h**p starts in the field.

A federal ban on intoxicating h**p products is currently set to take effect in November. A provision moving through Congress could extend that deadline to December 11, giving Kentucky’s h**p industry more time to work toward a regulatory solution.

Kentucky farmers and businesses are already feeling the impact of the uncertainty.

KYHA President Dee Dee Taylor and KYHA Treasurer Katie Moyer shared what the proposed ban could mean for their businesses and for Kentucky’s broader h**p industry.

Taylor said she supports regulations, including age restrictions and testing, and believes Kentucky’s existing regulatory framework is workable.

Moyer hopes the extension gives lawmakers more time to put regulations in place that the industry can live with.

The future of Kentucky h**p is still being decided.

🌿 H**p Industry News: Eswatini Launches Industrial H**p Research Trials

Eswatini's Ministry of Agriculture has approved a 4-hectare industrial h**p pilot project, marking the country's first formal step toward developing a h**p industry. The research will evaluate fiber quality, crop yields, and market opportunities in partnership with universities and local farmers, with the goal of giving producers another profitable crop.

Developments like this reinforce a lesson Kentucky knows well: growing h**p is only part of the equation. Long-term success depends on research, sound policy, and investment in value-added processing, from textiles and biocomposites to construction materials and grain products.

KYHA remains committed to supporting the policies, infrastructure, and innovation that help Kentucky's h**p industry continue to grow.
