LEGO Robotics kids — just a reminder that you have a little homework before our next meeting!

1. Innovation Project
The basic question we are working on is: What is something that is damaging biodiversity, and how could technology be used to help fix the problem?

Start by learning what biodiversity means. Then find an area that interests you — animals, plants, oceans, forests, pollution, invasive species, habitat loss, etc. Look into what problems are happening in that area and what technology is already being used to help.

Come to the next meeting with some ideas!

2. Robot Game
Watch the video of this year’s game board and learn how the different missions move and work. Pay attention to what the robot actually has to push, pull, lift, turn, move, or deliver.

As you watch, start thinking about what kinds of robot attachments we might need to complete those missions.

3. Robot Design
Look up LEGO SPIKE Prime robot designs that use quick-swap or quick-change attachments.

Think about how we can build a robot that lets us quickly attach and remove the different tools we will need for the challenges without having to rebuild the robot every time.

You do not need to have everything figured out! The goal is to come to the next meeting with some knowledge and ideas so we can spend more of our meeting time building, programming, testing, and improving.

Most importantly, the kids should be doing the research and bringing the ideas.

📍 Library kids: See you Tuesday from 6:00–8:00 PM
📍 Extension Office kids: See you Thursday from 6:00–8:00 PM

We had a great second LEGO Robotics meeting at the library tonight!

We already have robots built, programmed, and running around!! The competition table is looking great, and the kids are starting to work on some awesome strategies for how to score points and tackle the different missions.

The kids are also coming up with some wonderful ideas for the Innovation Project and beginning to dig into the problems they may want to solve and how technology could be used to help.

It’s exciting to see everything starting to come together this early in the season! There is still plenty of building, programming, testing, problem-solving, and teamwork ahead of us, but we are off to a great start.

Great job, everyone!

📣 LEGO Robotics Parents — Please Respond by Friday, August 14!

If you signed your child up for LEGO Robotics, please check your email. We sent out a message asking whether your family is available to meet on Tuesday evenings or Thursday evenings.

A few of the emails were returned as undeliverable, so we want to make sure we hear from everyone.

Please respond to the email us by Friday, August 14. If we do not hear from you by then, we will assume you are no longer able to participate and will offer your child’s spot to someone on the waiting list.

If you signed up but did not receive the email, please contact me at [email protected] so we can get you sorted.

The wait is over! 🎉

Thank you for your patience. We wanted to make sure everything was reviewed before posting the official non-performance award winners from the Wakulla Maker Derby.

These awards celebrate the creativity, craftsmanship, engineering, and imagination that made this event so special. Every car told a story, and our judges had an incredibly difficult time choosing the winners.

Congratulations to everyone who received an award, and thank you to every participant for making our first Maker Derby such a memorable event. We can't wait to see what you create next year!
