A massive fire ripped through the abandoned Hudson River State Hospital campus in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, sending thick black smoke visible for miles across the Hudson Valley... 🏚️

The fire was first reported around 11 a.m. and quickly spread through multiple vacant buildings on the historic property. Early reports indicate at least three late-1800s wood-frame buildings were heavily damaged or destroyed.

The cause remains under investigation. Officials say the abandoned buildings are not connected to the electrical grid, ruling out an active electrical malfunction as the source.

For many Hudson Valley residents, the fire marks another devastating loss for one of the region's most iconic abandoned landmarks. As investigators work to determine what sparked the blaze, questions remain about how much of the remaining historic campus can still be saved... 💔
