๐Ÿšจ Viral Toy Trend Warning: Serious Burn Danger ๐Ÿšจ

Some online videos show kids heating squishy gel toys, including NeeDohยฎ-style sensory cubes, in the microwave to make them softer.

Do Not Try It

These toys are not microwave-safe. Some squishy cubes contain a sugar-like filling. When heated, the inside can become extremely hot, thick, and sticky โ€” like hot syrup. If the toy bursts, the hot gel can splash out, stick to skin, and cause serious burns.

A childโ€™s face may be close to microwave height, putting the face, eyes, neck, chest, and hands at risk if the toy bursts.

๐Ÿ’ฌTalk About Viral Trends Early

Even if your child does not use TikTok, YouTube, or social media, they may still hear about viral trends from friends, classmates, siblings, or older kids. Create a safe space for children to ask questions and tell you if they see or hear about a risky trend, hack, or challenge.

Parent & Caregiver Safety Reminders

โœ… Talk with kids about viral trends, even if they do not use social media
โœ… Teach that toys do not go in the microwave
โœ… Only microwave food in microwave-safe containers
โœ… Limit microwave use and supervise when age appropriate
โœ… If a toy has been heated, do not touch it, squeeze it, or stand close to it

If a Burn Happens

โœ… Cool the burn with cool running water
โœ… Do not use ice, butter, or oils

Seek Medical Care Immediately

Get medical care right away for burns from hot sticky gel. Burns to the face, eyes, neck, chest, or hands need prompt medical attention.
