Some days everything goes just like we planned. And some days… well, you find yourself fixing a water line.

That’s the thing about rebuilding. You never really know what the day is going to throw at you!

But you figure it out, fix what needs fixing, and keep moving.

Because a busted water line might change the day’s plans, but it sure isn’t going to stop us from getting a family HOME! ❤️🏡

“Thank GOD I have my walking bridge.” ❤️

Remember Mr. Ted in Western North Carolina? He shared this photo from his house, and those were his words.

The lower water crossing is gone, and his beams are covered over. But the walking bridge we helped have rebuilt is still there.

This is why the work matters. For Mr. Ted and Evelyn, that bridge means a connection to their home—and peace of mind when the water rises.

To everyone who donated, worked, and helped make this possible alongside Operation Helo: look at the difference you made. ❤️

Not what we wanted to see in our mountains tonight. 💔

We’re seeing reports of flash flooding along the South Toe River in Celo, with landslides reported in Mitchell and McDowell counties.

Y’all, we’ve seen what these mountain creeks and rivers can do, and how quickly everything can change. Please stay off flooded roads, watch for rising water, and don’t wait to move to higher ground if you’re in danger.

Please look out for one another tonight.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Yancey County Emergency Shelter Opening

Beginning at 2:00 p.m. today, Saturday, October 10, Yancey County will open an emergency shelter at the Yancey County Senior Center for residents who wish to relocate as a precaution due to the potential for landslides associated with the incoming weather.

We strongly encourage residents living in landslide-prone areas, particularly near Mount Mitchell and along the Blue Ridge Parkway corridor in Yancey County, to consider relocating to a safer location before weather conditions worsen.

Residents are encouraged to remain alert, monitor weather updates, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families.

Your safety is our priority. Please do not wait until conditions become dangerous to relocate.

PSA for our friends in the North Carolina Mountains. 🙏

Heads Up: Unfortunately, as we discussed today, the National Weather Service is now warning of an increasing potential for landslides and rockslides across parts of the mountains, particularly near the Blue Ridge Escarpment and the southeast-facing slopes of the Balsam and Black Mountains.

I'm sharing a Public Information Statement they just asked us to share.

Be Informed- have multiple ways to receive alerts, especially overnight Saturday into Sunday. Enable emergency alerts on your cell phone and sign up for local emergency alerts from your emergency management office.

Have a Plan- know where you will go to seek higher ground in flood-prone areas or if you need to take shelter for severe weather.

🚁🇺🇸 Operation Helo is deploying to Florida.

We’re bringing chainsaws, generators, tarps, fans, cleaning supplies, hygiene kits, buckets and more to help our neighbors after the storm.

Once the storm passes and our location is confirmed, we’ll share where you can find us.

Please join us in praying for our neighbors along the Gulf Coast, the first responders protecting their communities, and everyone preparing to help. ❤️🙏
