Lake Norman Lucky Cat Lake Norman Lucky Cat aka "Lucky Cats" is a Trap-Neuter-Return facilitator for community cats.

Since 1998, the Lake Norman Lucky Cat Program offers an alternative to the proven unsuccessful trap and kill method of population control for ferals. The Lake Norman Lucky Cat Program offers a humane approach to feral overpopulation, and stabilizes colonies through the TNR (trap-neuter-return) approach. Feral cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and returned to the site of origin where caretakers continue to provide for their care.

A QUICK UPDATE ON LENOIR COUNTY PURRS-GIVING REGISTRATION! 🐾

We wanted to touch base with everyone regarding registration for our upcoming Kinston Purrs-giving Spay/Neuter Clinic.

We are running a little behind schedule due to a family emergency involving the volunteer who manages our registration process.

We know some of you have already registered and are waiting for your donation link, and we also know that our out-of-county applicants were anticipating receiving emails today. We haven't forgotten about you!

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through the registrations and get everything caught up. We will be sending out the remaining emails and donation links as soon as possible.

Thank you for bearing with us, for your interest in the clinic, and most importantly, for being part of the effort to make a difference for cats in our community.

A little patience goes a long way, and we promise we're working on it! ❤️🐾

Together, we will fix the future!

WALMART UPDATE: 15 KITTENS SAFE… AND A COMMUNITY COMING TOGETHER! ❤️🐾

Remember the Walmart situation we shared? Well, there has been quite an update!

We took in 7 more kittens last night, bringing the total number of kittens brought to safety to 15. And what started as an overwhelming situation for one organization has truly become a community effort.

We have some very special organizations to thank:

❤️ Cats of Davidson stepped up in a BIG way, taking 12 kittens into their care, including several of the very sick babies we had been caring for. Their willingness to open their doors and take on this additional responsibility has made an enormous difference.

❤️ Bella Vita, a very small rescue in Statesville, is providing emergency nursing and supportive care for one kitten who we weren't sure was going to make it. Sometimes the smallest organizations have the biggest hearts, and we are so grateful they stepped forward when help was desperately needed.

That leaves Lucky Cat with two kittens still in our care. One of those babies needs an enucleation (surgical removal of an eye), and we are working to secure an appointment as quickly as possible.

But here's what makes this story even more encouraging…

While our rescue partners are stepping up to care for the kittens, Lucky Cat can put more of its energy where it is needed most: addressing the adult cat population through spay/neuter.

In fact, four of the Walmart situation cats went in for spay/neuter today! Thank you Community Pets Mobile Veterinary Clinic (Dr Welch!).

This is what progress looks like. Not simply moving kittens from one place to another, but addressing the underlying problem so that more kittens aren't born into the same circumstances.

We also want to thank every single person who has contributed financially, donated food, transported cats/kittens, shared our posts, offered assistance, or simply encouraged us along the way. Your generosity is helping provide food, medical care, and the resources needed to keep this effort moving forward.

And to Cats of Davidson and Bella Vita: THANK YOU for answering the call. Your willingness to take on some of these babies has lifted an enormous burden and allowed us to concentrate more of our efforts on the spay/neuter work that will ultimately stabilize this situation.

This is why collaboration matters.

No one organization can do everything. But when rescues, spay/neuter organizations, donors, volunteers, and concerned community members each step forward to do what they can, the collective impact is extraordinary.

Fifteen kittens are now out of harm's way. The first four cats were fixed today. And we are one step closer to stabilizing a situation that could otherwise continue producing litter after litter.

We are beyond grateful to everyone who has become part of this effort. It truly takes a village, and ours has shown up in a big way.

Rescue gives the kittens a chance. Spay/Neuter gives the next generation a chance not to be born into the same circumstances.

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much". -Helen Keller

Individual human effort is limited but collaboration, teamwork, and unity allow people to achieve much greater goals.

And 'together', we will fix the future. ❤️🐾

💔 FREE KITTENS AT WALMART. A MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM. AND NOW, THEY NEED US.

When we learned about kittens being given away for free across from a Mooresville, NC, Walmart parking lot, we knew we needed to look beyond the parking lot and find out WHY.

Why were there so many kittens? What was happening to the cats left behind? And what would happen when the next litter arrived?

So we intervened. We visited the property, and what we found was among the worst situations we've encountered, with cats and kittens living both indoors and outdoors.

We also learned that the man had previously asked for help, but told us his calls were never returned and no one came.

Meanwhile, the cats kept reproducing.

Yesterday, we stepped in to help. But what we found—and what these kittens need—is heartbreaking.

🐾 We took the remaining FOUR kittens that were still available after two others had already been given away.

🐾 We also took FOUR MORE VERY SICK KITTENS from inside the home. And there are more!!!

🐾 The man cannot afford to feed all the cats on his property. That means mom cats are struggling to find enough food to nourish themselves while trying to raise their kittens.

🐾 Several kittens have severe upper respiratory issues that were left untreated. We now have them on antibiotics! More than one may lose an eye. When an eye is too badly damaged to save, surgical removal, called an enucleation, can cost approximately $700 per kitten.

Let that sink in. These are babies who should be playing, exploring, and growing—not fighting infections that could leave them with a permanent deficit.

And the kittens are only part of the problem.

There are approximately 27 cats including kittens 'inside' the home, give or take. And 'at least' 10+ outside! So at least 37! And there are always more than you originally thought, so let's round that number up to 40 for safe measure. At $85 per cat for TNR, that's potentially $3,400, just for spay/neuter services, before additional medical care, medications, food, or other needs are considered.

The costs add up quickly. But so does the suffering when nothing is done.

❤️ HERE'S WHERE YOU CAN HELP.

We need our Lucky Cat community now, in a BIG way and there are TWO important ways you can make a difference.

🐱 1. HELP FEED THEM.

The most urgently needed food donations are kitten food—both dry and canned.

Preferred so as not to upset tummies by changing food:

Dry food:
Iam’s kitten food in the purple bag

Canned:
Pro Plan kitten food
Sheba kitten soft pate’
Fancy Feast kitten food

These moms need nourishment. These kittens need food to grow and recover. And with so many mouths to feed, every bag and every can matters.

Food donations can be dropped off at any Lake Norman Realty location. Our Mooresville office is the preferred location because it allows our volunteers to access the donations more quickly.

💗 2. SPONSOR A CAT'S TNR.

With approximately 40 cats/kittens on the property, minus the eight sickest kittens already in our care, we desperately need help breaking the cycle of reproduction. Every unfixed cat represents the possibility of more litters, more suffering, and more mouths that this man cannot afford to feed.

At approximately $85 per cat which includes surgery (male or female), rabies/FVRCP vaccines and an eartip, would you consider sponsoring the TNR of one cat or kitten from this situation?

You don't have to sponsor an entire cat to make a difference. Any donation amount helps. Every dollar brings us closer to getting these cats spayed or neutered and preventing another generation from suffering.

- $25 — help toward one cat's TNR
- $50 — bring a sponsorship closer to completion
- $85 — sponsor one cat's TNR
- ANY AMOUNT — help with kitten food, medical care, and the costs of this intervention.

For friendly cats which we would hope to get into rescue cost is:
Spay-$90
Neuter-$75
Rabies-$15
FVRCP-$15
Combo-test $30
Enucleation (eye removal) $700. We already anticipate at least two enucleations.

Tax-deductible monetary donations can be made at LuckyCats.org, by clicking the DONATE button, or by mailing a check to:

Lucky Cats
20117 W. Catawba Ave.
Cornelius, NC 28031

Paying the online associated service fee means your entire donation can be put to work, same for a check!

Food donations can be dropped off at any Lake Norman Realty location, with Mooresville preferred.

🙏 PLEASE HELP US TURN THIS STORY INTO A TURNING POINT.

We cannot undo what these kittens have already endured. We cannot promise that every injured eye can be saved. But together, we can provide food, get sick kittens the care they need, and begin addressing the underlying problem so fewer cats and kittens face this same future.

This is why we do what we do. Not simply to respond to a crisis, but to get to the root of it.

Because giving away today's kittens doesn't stop tomorrow's litter.

Spay. Neuter. Prevent suffering. Together, we will fix the future. ❤️🐾

🚨FREE KITTENS AT WALMART. THE STORY DIDN’T END IN THE PARKING LOT.

When we learned that a man was offering kittens for free across from Walmart parking lot, we knew there was more to this story than kittens needing homes.

We could have simply criticized him for giving kittens away. Quick reminder: Giving away kittens for free in a parking lot or anywhere for that matter, puts them at serious risk for illness, injury, dog-fighting bait, snake food, and ending up unspayed/ unneutered and continuing the cycle of reproduction.

We could have focused on finding homes/rescue for the kittens we knew about and moved on.

But that wouldn’t have addressed the real problem.

Why were there kittens to give away in the first place? And what would happen to the next litter…and the litter after that?

So instead of stopping at the parking lot, we intervened. We reached out, asked questions, and made a visit to the man’s property to learn more about the situation.

What we found was heartbreaking. 💔

The conditions were as bad as anything we’ve encountered, with cats/kittens living both inside and outside the home. What initially appeared to be a situation involving a few free kittens turned out to be part of a much bigger problem.

And then we learned something else.

He had asked for help before. He told us he had made calls, but no one returned them. No one showed up.

Think about that for a moment.

Somewhere along the way, an opportunity to intervene may have been missed. And while requests for help went unanswered, the cats kept reproducing. More kittens born into an already difficult situation, and the problem continued to grow.

This is why we need to talk about free kittens.

Giving kittens away for free isn’t automatically wrong, and a price tag alone doesn’t determine whether someone will be a responsible owner. But when kittens are repeatedly being given away because cats on a property aren’t spayed or neutered, the real problem isn’t the price of the kittens. It’s why more kittens keep being born.

Free kittens can disappear into new homes, but the cycle continues if the adults aren’t fixed. And when people who are overwhelmed reach out for help and don’t receive it, a manageable situation can become a crisis.

This is exactly why Lucky Cat focuses on prevention through spay/neuter and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).

We don’t believe the answer is simply to blame someone for a situation that has gotten out of control. We believe in looking at the whole picture, finding the source of the problem, and working toward a solution that prevents more cats and kittens from suffering.

Because finding homes for today’s kittens is only part of the answer. Preventing tomorrow’s kittens from being born into the same circumstances is how we begin to change the story!

This situation is a reminder that behind a parking lot full of free kittens, there may be a much bigger story—one that won’t be solved by a few comments on social media or by moving kittens from one place to another.

It takes accountability. It takes resources. And it takes people willing to follow through when someone asks for help.

At Lucky Cat, we believe in getting to the root of the problem, not just reacting to its symptoms.

We can’t change what we don’t address. And we can’t prevent suffering if we wait until the next litter arrives.

We can keep giving kittens away, or we can address why they are being born in the first place.

Please continue to follow Lake Norman Lucky Cats on Facebook for updates on this situation, in particular the condition of the kittens.

Together, we can fix the future. ❤️🐾

Please remember: Lucky Cat is a spay/neuter and TNR organization, not a rescue or shelter. Our mission is to prevent suffering by stopping the cycle of unwanted litters before it begins.

🐈‍⬛🎃 YOU THOUGHT YOU SAVED ITS LIFE. YOU MAY HAVE JUST LEFT IT TO DIE ALONE.

“𝙄’𝙡𝙡 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙩 𝙤𝙛𝙛 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙚. 𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙖.”

We’ve heard it more times than we’d like to admit. And 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙙 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩? Some people genuinely believe they’re doing the kinder thing.

But have you ever stopped to think about what happens AFTER you drive away?

🙀Imagine being taken from the only place you’ve ever known.

🙀The familiar smells. The hiding places. The food source you’ve depended on. The people, animals, and routines you’ve grown accustomed to.

🙀All gone.

Now you’re somewhere completely unfamiliar.

❓You don’t know where to find food or water.
❓You don’t know where it’s safe to sleep.
❓You don’t know which animals are dangerous or which direction might lead you to safety.

Every unfamiliar sound could mean danger.

And the person who brought you there?
They’re already driving away.

Maybe they tell themselves there’s a barn nearby. Maybe someone will feed you.
Maybe you’ll find a kind stranger.
Maybe you’ll figure it out.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘄𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗔𝗬𝗕𝗘𝗦 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹’𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲.

Now imagine someone dropping YOU in a foreign country.

❌No money.
❌No phone.
❌No transportation.
❌You don’t speak the language, don’t know where you are, and have absolutely no idea who you can trust.

Pretty terrifying, isn’t it?

THAT’S THE REALITY AN ABANDONED CAT MAY FACE.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱.

Just because you don’t witness the hunger, fear, injuries, illness, or suffering doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

That cat may spend its remaining days hiding from predators, dodging traffic, searching for its next meal, or desperately trying to survive in a place it never belonged.

And sometimes, that cat doesn’t survive at all.

𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥.

We understand that animal shelters can be an emotional subject. Nobody wants to think about an animal being euthanized, and neither do we.

But let’s be clear about something.

𝗔𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗮.

Humane euthanasia, when necessary, is intended to prevent suffering. Abandonment can expose an animal to prolonged fear, pain, starvation, injury, and a slow death.

And simply because you aren’t there to see it doesn’t make it any less cruel.

If you can no longer care for a cat, please contact your local animal shelter or animal control agency to discuss your options.

And for those caring for community cats, remember that TNV𝗥 Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, 𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡.

𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡 means returning the cat to its established territory. Not a random barn. Not somebody else’s property. Not a wooded area where you hope it’ll figure things out.

There are specific circumstances where relocation may be necessary, but it requires planning, an appropriate caregiver, and a proper acclimation process. You cannot simply drop a cat somewhere and call it relocation.

🐈‍⬛ THE REAL HORROR STORY ISN’T ALWAYS WHAT HAPPENS IN FRONT OF US. SOMETIMES IT’S WHAT HAPPENS AFTER NOBODY IS WATCHING.

And that’s exactly why we’re having this conversation.

Abandonment isn’t mercy. It’s suffering you don’t have to witness. 💔

⚠️ 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪? 𝗜𝗻 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮, 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝟮 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗡.𝗖. 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 § 𝟭𝟰-𝟯𝟲𝟭.𝟭.

🐱 100 CATS. 2 DAYS. ZERO EXCUSES.

OUR GOAL: 100 CATS SPAYED OR NEUTERED IN JUST TWO DAYS!

And we're not doing it just because we love cats. We're doing it because we love cats ENOUGH to stop the cycle of unwanted litters before it starts. ❤️🐾

While everyone else is preparing for the holidays, we're preparing for something BIG in Kinston! Because here's the reality: SPRING KITTEN SEASON STARTS LONG BEFORE SPRING.

It starts with the unfixed female cat roaming your neighborhood.

It starts with the outdoor cat someone has been feeding but hasn't been able to afford to fix.

It starts with the kittens born to cats whose people never realized how quickly one litter can become two, then three, then a whole colony. And by the time those adorable little faces start showing up everywhere? We're already playing catch-up. 😿

THIS TIME, WE WANT TO GET AHEAD OF THE GAME!

🎯 THE MISSION:
🐾 100 cats.
🐾 2 days of intensive spay-neuter efforts.
🐾 Fewer unwanted litters.
🐾 Fewer homeless kittens born into a world already overflowing with cats who need help.
🐾 A healthier future for Kinston's cats and the people who care about them.

🧡 WHY PURRSGIVING?
Because there's a whole lot to be thankful for when fewer kittens are born homeless, fewer cats suffer the consequences of unchecked reproduction, and more community cats can live healthier lives.

And what better way to celebrate the season of giving than by giving cats something they desperately need?

A FUTURE WITHOUT ANOTHER UNWANTED LITTER.

🚨 BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Do you care for outdoor cats?
Do you feed a neighborhood colony?
Do you know someone with unfixed cats?
Have you been waiting for an affordable opportunity to get cats spayed or neutered?

THIS IS YOUR SIGN. THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY. THIS IS THE TIME TO ACT!

Don't wait until spring.
Don't wait until the pregnant cats start showing.
Don't wait until the kittens arrive and everyone scrambles to find help.

PREVENTION IS THE MISSION. AND EVERY CAT COUNTS.
