Preschool started back on August 19th! 🎒 For our littlest learners, it’s not just the first day of school, it’s the first day of school ever! It’s a big moment, and sometimes big emotions go with it. 🧸

To make it easier to say goodbye to parents and guardians, our preschool asks that family members say farewell at the door and don’t come into the classroom. But it’s the first day of school for parents, too. The big emotions go both ways! 🥹

We are so fortunate to have a two-way mirror that looks out on the classroom in our preschool director’s office. 🔍 We invite parents to watch from there so they can see their kids settling into the classroom and joining in the fun! 🎨

Seeing any nervous first-day tears turn into happy giggles and squeals of excitement is the absolute best part of our morning! ❤️ We are so honored to partner with your families for this big milestone. Welcome to the new school year! 🏫✨

🚨 MOST WANTED: Deodorant 🚨

When we picture back-to-school season, we often think of little kids with backpacks almost as big as they are, new crayons, fresh notebooks, and first-day photos on the porch. 🎒

But older kids are heading back to school, too—and their needs can look a little different.

Deodorant might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of school supplies, but for middle school and high school students, it can be just as important. It supports confidence, comfort, and dignity through long school days, gym class, after-school activities, and the everyday stress of being a teenager.

Household essentials are not always food, and they are not always obvious. Sometimes they are the basic personal care items that help kids walk into school feeling ready to learn and be around their peers.

If you are able to donate, deodorant is one of our Most Wanted items right now. Your gift helps local students start the school year with confidence and care.

📣 Upcoming Closure Notice: Labor Day

Mountain Resource Center will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Please note that Mobile Food Share will also be closed that day. If you normally access services on Mondays, we encourage you to plan ahead before the holiday weekend.

✨ A new preschool year starts long before the first child walks through the door.

Behind the scenes, there is so much care, planning, and preparation that goes into creating a classroom where young children can feel safe, welcomed, curious, and ready to learn.
Our Preschool Director, Leslie, has been busy getting the classroom ready—unrolling a new rug, laminating materials, and labeling spaces and supplies to support early literacy throughout the day.

Those labels matter. When children see words connected to real objects and classroom routines, they begin building print awareness, vocabulary, independence, and confidence as early readers and learners.

Every cozy corner, carefully chosen material, and thoughtful classroom detail helps set the stage for a year full of play, discovery, friendship, and growth. We’re so glad to welcome our preschoolers into the space Leslie and the team have prepared with so much care. 💛

We’ve all had those mornings! The kids can’t find their shoes 👟, one of them pulled laundry out of the wrong basket and needs to change into clean clothes 🧺, the cat got out 🐈, and the bus is on its way 🚌!

Some days, parents can lovingly pack a delicious lunch with homemade ingredients and neatly sliced sides.

Other days parents need to make sure the kids are going to have something nutritious to eat at school, and they need to do it in a rush 🌪️.

🥜 Peanut butter is an amazing shelf-stable pantry staple for any home. It has 7 to 8 grams of protein per serving, mostly unsaturated fats, and lots of fiber to keep students feeling full and focused at school.

No wonder it is such a popular item at our Food Share Market! If you are able to donate, peanut butter is one of our most wanted pantry items right now. Your gift helps make sure local kids have healthy lunches without missing the bus!

💛 Thank you to our amazing MRC Preschool volunteers!

Over the last couple of weeks, our preschool volunteers have given their time and energy to help clean, organize, and prepare the classroom for a wonderful new school year.

They have also completed their annual training, helping make sure our classroom is ready to welcome children into a safe, supportive, joyful space for learning and play.

We are so grateful for the care, dedication, and behind-the-scenes work that helps MRC Preschool start the year strong. Thank you for showing up for our kids, our teachers, and our mountain families. 🌟

🎒 From preschool to kindergarten—what a big adventure!

Every now and then, we get the privilege of running into former MRC Preschool students over the summer, and it is always such a joy to see how much they have grown.

Some of our preschool graduates came to our Free School Supply Market this year to stock up for kindergarten, and we loved getting to see them as they prepared for this exciting next step.

Getting ready for the new school year can bring so much possibility: new classrooms, new routines, new friendships, and the big adventure of kindergarten. We are so proud of our former students and all the learning, confidence, curiosity, and independence they are carrying with them.

School started yesterday for many local students, and we are confident our MRC Preschool graduates stepped into their new grade with enthusiasm, ready for a new adventure in learning. 💛

This charming handmade gnome from Luna’s Mandala was created from a piece of aspen log—and it comes with a certificate for a class where you can learn how to make one yourself.

It is just one small preview of the creativity, generosity, and community spirit that will be part of Colorado Sunrise Trails: A Bright Path Ahead on October 1 at Mount Vernon Canyon Club.
