Join us for a hands-on workshop on ecologically-based pest control, led by Urban Agriculture and Environmental Education Consultant Rob Bennaton. We'll cover pest identification, how to diagnose problems in your garden, and eco-friendly tools and techniques for prevention and management.⁠

You'll get to inspect the garden in real time, learn to tell beneficial insects from harmful ones, and discover how to work with nature, not against it, to keep your crops thriving.⁠

🌱An empty field with piles of mulch, weeds, and big dreams. ⁠
⁠
👩🏽‍🌾🌿That’s what 230 Demeter St looked like in June 2025 when Fresh Approach held our opening ceremony with friends, neighbors, and local officials for the new East Palo Alto Community Garden. One year later, walking along the gravel paths amongst the planter beds blooming with veggies and flowers, you wouldn’t realize you were in the same space. The magic you feel walking through the garden comes from the tender care and love that everyone has intentionally put forth to make this a place for the community.⁠

🌱 Build skills & lead your community: Join our team as a Fresh Approach Community Ambassador!

🥕 Nutrition Education Community Ambassador
Raise awareness of free VeggieRx programming for Medi-Cal recipients, support farmers' market cooking demos, and lead virtual nutrition workshops across the Bay Area.
10–16 hrs/week | June 2026–May 2027

🥕 Community Outreach Ambassador
Visit farmers' markets throughout the Bay Area to promote WIC and Senior FMNP benefits, connect Medi-Cal recipients to free VeggieRx programs, and support vendor training.
16–20 hrs/week | June–December 2026

Both roles: $22/hour | Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply!

Market Match DOUBLES the dollars withdrawn at participating farmers' markets to be used to purchase fresh fruits and veggies from local farmers. Everyone benefits.⁠

☀️🌱Under a clear blue sky and sunny weather, last Saturday we celebrated the one year anniversary of being in our new garden with a potluck organized by our dedicated staff, gardeners, and volunteers!⁠
⁠
🥗Folks prepared lovely salads, refreshing herbal teas, and homemade sweets to share -- there was a salad with all sorts of greens and flowers; pesto made from nasturtiums topped a pasta salad decorated with the orange blooms.⁠
⁠
Community Garden Ambassador, Judy, shares, “There was 'abundance' in the air for this gathering, with the bounty of raised beds and in-ground plots full of flourishing plants. We ate sugar snap peas grown right there, and feasted on strawberries, plums, nectarines and carrots purchased from local farmers at the East Palo Alto Community Farmers' Market.”⁠

And a sense of community, “People visited one anothers' garden plots, exchanged ideas for the next round of crops, and sat together in informal groups at the lovely slab tables and benches. We'd received and distributed seedlings (cucumbers, eggplants, chives, basil) that interested many folks, who could either bring the plants home or plant them right there.”⁠
