Diablo View Orchid Society

Diablo View Orchid Society Join us at DVOS to make friends and learn about orchids. We also maintain a lending library of orchid related books, videos, and CDs.

Our meetings typically include a speaker, culture (growing) advice, show & tell, judging and awards, snacks, orchid raffle, orchid sales. Annual events are our Show and Sale, Club trips, Christmas party, picnic, other orchid shows and local events.

We had two AOS awards from the DVOS show on Saturday. Diane Bond received an AM for her Phragmipedium Hanna Popow, and Tom Merics got an HCC for his Paphiopedilum tranlienianum. Congratulations to both of you.

Our next meeting is on January 21 This month's speaker will be Sergio Garcia of Olompali Orchids. His topic is the Brazilian species,Cattleya intermedia and its many varieties. C. intermedia is justifiably prized both as a species and as the parent of excellent hybrids. January's meeting will be an opportunity to learn about this important species from a top notch grower and hybridizer.

DVOS Christmas Party Dec. 17 Thursday in the Pleasant Hill Community Center

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but our Holiday Party will be delightful (our regular meeting place) on December 17th starting at 6:00 pm for setup with dinner beginning at 7:00 pm. The Society will provide turkey, ham, drinks, plates and utensils.... beyond that, it's a potluck with dishes assigned alphabetically.

We also will have a Gift Exchange. Not a White Elephant exchange. Bring a nice plant (bug free) or an orchid related gift (tools, display pots, gift card, etc.). The party is a great way to catch up with old friends and to make new ones.
