Hi all! Our dryer recently went down, and we could use some assistance getting our laundry clean for our animals. If you are interested, please feel free to email [email protected]!
Thank you!

🚨 Calling all laundry angels! 🚨

Our shelter is FULL of kittens, stray dogs, and our adoptable animals, it’s raining, and it’s a long weekend… which means it’s the perfect time for our dryer to stop working again 😅

We are seeking volunteers to pick up a bag or two of laundry to wash and return to the shelter. This will help us stay on top of everything until we can fix the dryer!

If you’re willing to help, please contact Danielle: [email protected] or 1-657-554-1775. 🙏🏼

Thank you!!

Volunteers Needed for April & May Dog Walking Events!

We have some exciting events coming up, and our dogs need your help to enjoy them to the fullest! During these April and May events, volunteers will help give our pups much-needed exercise, enrichment, and time outside of their kennels.

Upcoming Events:

April 17th – Top Dog Car Wash (3PM–5PM)

April 18th – Precise Tooling Solutions (10AM–3PM)

May 2nd – Spruce Ridge Vendor Fair (10AM–3PM)

May 6th - Dog Petting Pawty @ CTC (2PM - 5PM)

May 16th – Prevention Palooza @ Columbus Airport (2PM to 6PM)

May 18th – Puppy Pawty @ Library (3PM–5PM)

These events are a great opportunity for our dogs to burn energy, socialize, and get extra love—something they don’t always get enough of in the shelter. Every walk you take helps improve their well-being and visibility for potential adopters.

Whether you can help at one event or several, we’d love to have you join us. No matter your experience level, you’ll be making a real difference.

As Volunteer Appreciation Week comes to a close, we just want to say one more time… thank you. 🐾

To every dog walker, cat cuddler, foster, event helper, cleaner, organizer, and behind-the-scenes supporter—YOU are what makes BCHS possible. Because of you, our animals get more love, more enrichment, and more chances to find their forever homes.

You show up on busy days, hard days, and everything in between. You give your time, your energy, and your hearts—and it truly makes a difference in the lives of every animal that comes through our doors.

To wrap up the week, we put together three gift baskets as a small token of our appreciation. Recipients were chosen randomly through a name drawing—congratulations to our winners! 🎉 Winners will be notified through the email associated with their volunteer profile.

We see you. We appreciate you. And we couldn’t do this without you. 💙

From all of us at BCHS (and all the wagging tails and happy purrs) …thank you for being part of our mission.

💕Volunteer Spotlight💕

Meet Carrie! 🐾

Carrie has three dogs—two of which came from BCHS—and says she is lucky married to someone very tolerant of all the time she spends at the shelter (lol!).

She’s been volunteering for 9.5 years, starting in September 2016. Carrie began by walking dogs three days a week and has since taken on a huge role recruiting, training, and scheduling all of our dog walkers. This helps ensure every dog is handled safely and gets out on a regular schedule. She’s also been part of the marketing committee for several years.

Carrie first came to BCHS while looking to adopt a second dog after losing her senior pup. Seeing dogs in kennels 24/7 broke her heart, and she knew she could help by giving just an hour a few days a week by giving them the break they needed.

She says there have been too many positive experiences to count—especially bonding with long-term dogs and helping them find the right homes by bonding with each dog she gets to walk.

For those thinking of volunteering Carrie says " Everyone always says they couldn’t do it because it would make them sad. Or that they would want to take them home. I get it. It is sad seeing these animals locked up each day. It breaks my heart every day. For several it’s the best place they have been. But the joy these dogs experience with a walk, affection, treats, blankets and a hard chew day, is totally worth it!"

❤️Volunteer Spotlight❤️

Meet Sara, one of our incredibly dedicated BCHS volunteers! 🐾

Sara is married and has two pups of her own. She has been volunteering with us for 9½ years! She primarily walks dogs, but she’s also lent a hand at events, participated in doggie day outs, and even opened her home to a few foster pups. Inspired by a friend and living close to the shelter, Sara gave volunteering a try—and never looked back.

Over the years, she’s met many unforgettable dogs, but one who stands out is Nala. Sara not only got to name her but also earned her trust—something truly special. Now happily adopted, Nala is living her best life!

Sara’s advice to anyone considering volunteering? “Give it a try—you’ll be rewarded with lots of kisses.” 💛

💙 Volunteer Spotlight: Mike 💙

We’re so grateful to have Mike as part of the BCHS family! In just 6 months, he’s made a meaningful impact through dog cleaning and Doggie Day Out—helping our pups get the care, attention, and fun they deserve.

Mike’s love for animals runs deep. Inspired by a lifetime of compassion and a desire to honor the dogs who meant so much to him, he brings heart into everything he does. He’s formed special bonds with the dogs he spends time with during Doggy Day Out and cleaning.

When asked if there was a positive experience that has stuck with him Mike responded, "The people at BCHS inspire me. They work tirelessly to turn an unfortunate situation into a positive. Each animal that goes into a forever home is celebrated. All of the dogs that I have taken out for a day to have been a dream. We become best buds. My first, Damion is special to me, and he is one that I will rejoice when he finds his forever family."

His advice? “Give it a try—it will turn your worst day into something rewarding and positive.”

Thank you, Mike, for sharing your time, kindness, and love with our animals! ✨
