September is Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Awareness Month in the United States, and SCI organizations across North America are marking it with more events and campaigns than one article can hold. Two of them are still open to you before the month ends.

Friday, September 18 closes free registration for the morning Public Meeting of the Implanted Brain-Computer Interface Collaborative Community (iBCI-CC), which meets October 16 in Washington, DC. NASCIC is a charter member.

Tuesday, September 29 is the first Externally-Led Patient-Focused Drug Development meeting held for spinal cord injury. People living with SCI and their care partners describe what matters most to them about symptoms, daily life, and treatment while the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and treatment developers listen. It is free, it is virtual, and what is said becomes a Voice of the Patient report the FDA can use when it reviews SCI therapies.

Registration for the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Implanted Brain-Computer Interface Collaborative Community (iBCI-CC) closes September 18.

The meeting takes place October 16, 2026, the closing day of the ACRM Annual Fall Conference at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC. It is free to attend and open to anyone who registers, in person or by Zoom. Virtual-only registration closes October 5.

The agenda includes a regulatory science block with the FDA, a keynote from Martha J. Morrell, MD, and organizer updates from Jen French. NASCIC is a charter member of the iBCI-CC.

On September 29, the spinal cord injury community speaks directly to the FDA.

The first Externally-Led Patient-Focused Drug Development (EL-PFDD) meeting for spinal cord injury runs 10 AM to 3 PM ET, 7 AM to 12 PM PT. It is free and fully virtual, co-hosted by Ian Burkhart, past President of NASCIC.

People living with spinal cord injury and their care partners will tell the and treatment developers what matters most to them: which symptoms weigh heaviest, what current treatments do and do not address, and what a meaningful result would look like. What is said becomes a Voice of the report published on the FDA's website, where it informs how future therapies are reviewed.

- Are 18–75 years old
- Have had your SCI for over 1 year with some arm movement
- Use a wheelchair or mobility aid most of the time
- Have internet access and are cleared to exercise
- Are not currently in rehab

The 103rd ACRM Annual Fall Conference and EXPO is October 12 to 16 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC.

Friday, October 16 belongs to the 3rd Annual Meeting of the iBCI-CC, the Implanted Brain-Computer Interface Collaborative Community. The morning Public Meeting is free and open to anyone who registers, with an FDA regulatory science panel and a Zoom option for people who cannot travel.

Registration closes September 18 and the shared hotel room block closes September 10. Travel scholarships are open to patient advocacy representatives.
