Team Ohio is celebrating an important milestone for the Vibrant Communities program: more than 100 completed projects through JobsOhio’s Vibrant Communities and Pre-Project Planning programs.

Vibrant Communities funds catalytic development projects in smaller cities, towns, and villages, turning local vision into sustained growth. Pre-Project Planning provides those same communities with the technical assistance and procedural expertise they may need to prepare projects for development.

Together over the past five years, the two programs have helped generate more than $175 million in investment across 68 communities in every region of Ohio, creating nearly 1,500 jobs and more than $80 million in annual payroll.

Developers and community leaders from across the state are sharing stories of how this support helped them transform vacant downtown buildings into high-energy gathering places where people want to live, work, and invest. Big change often starts with a single building.

From the Industrial Revolution to the innovation economy, Ohio has always made what the world needs.

Steel, tires, glass, cash registers, and the first airplane. Today, it’s life-saving medicines, semiconductors, advanced defense systems, and the equipment that powers America’s grid.

And we build fast. Anduril Industries went from announcement to its first Ohio-built aircraft in 557 days. Amgen went from groundbreaking to licensure in New Albany in 26 months. Westrafo opened its first U.S. plant in Trotwood in less than 14 months.

Bayer, one of the world’s most respected life sciences companies, is investing $2.2 billion to build a new pharmaceutical manufacturing site in New Albany, creating around 600 high-value jobs and roughly 1,500 construction jobs. It’s a defining moment that secures Ohio’s place among global biomanufacturing leaders as a top destination for life sciences investment.

Joining a growing life sciences cluster in the New Albany International Business Park that includes Amgen, Hims & Hers, American Regent, and Pharmavite, Bayer’s facility will combine drug substance and drug product manufacturing to support its growing portfolio in oncology, cardiovascular, and renal care. By building in Ohio, Bayer strengthens the reliability of America’s medicine supply.

The workforce helped make Ohio the right choice. The Ohio Life Science Training Center, opening in summer 2027, will train Ohioans as biomanufacturing operators and technicians. The public-private initiative will help create a ready-made talent pipeline for Bayer and other life sciences companies building the future of medicine in Ohio.

This week, Sheetz celebrated the grand opening of its new food preparation and distribution center in Findlay. The 500,000-square-foot facility represents a roughly $150 million investment and brings 750 jobs to Hancock County.

It will prepare food and deliver products to Sheetz stores across Ohio and into Michigan. The family-owned company now has 140 Ohio locations and is still growing in Toledo, Columbus, and Dayton. Findlay is the launchpad for its push into the Midwest.

Why Northwest Ohio? It has a thriving food and agribusiness industry with a complete end-to-end value chain, strong logistics advantages, and a skilled workforce ready to deliver.

The project is one of the largest in JobsOhio's Food & Agribusiness sector, made possible with our partners at the Regional Growth Partnership Northwest Ohio and Findlay Hancock County Economic Development.

When a company needs to move fast, the immediate availability of a high-quality, ready-to-occupy option can make all the difference.

With support from the JobsOhio Ohio Site Inventory Program (OSIP), which helps advance development efforts to spur local business investment, the City of Youngstown is adding move-in-ready industrial inventory that puts the Mahoning Valley in play as communities compete for the next major manufacturing or logistics project.

In collaboration with Lake to River, Top Property Holdings broke ground on a 50,000-square-foot class-A speculative building at Youngstown Technology Park, the first phase of a nearly $4.8 million project that strengthens the case for site selectors evaluating the region. By building to meet increasing demand, public and private partners are working together to deliver jobs to the community and keep the local economy growing and competitive.

The state is attracting the skilled workforce companies need to compete. Since 2020, Ohio has gained more than 100,000 residents, including more than 80,000 prime working-age adults.

Through Find Your Ohio, employers can connect with experienced talent from across the country, and the JobsOhio Relocation Incentive helps companies accelerate hiring with $15,000 per qualifying out-of-state STEM or technical hire.

Named the top state for business by CNBC, Ohio has a robust public-private workforce system and hundreds of talent resources to help companies grow.

Big news for Warren County: Walmart plans to invest more than $300 million in a new fulfillment center in Turtlecreek Township, which will create more than 300 new jobs.

The Encore Park facility will handle larger items like TVs and furniture, helping Walmart get products to customers faster. It adds to Walmart's current Monroe operation, which has more than 200 associates.

This new investment builds on Walmart's decades in Ohio. It brings new jobs to the region and adds to Ohio's reputation as a destination for logistics and distribution.

With support from the JobsOhio Ohio Site Inventory Program (OSIP), vacant lots like the one at the corner of Joyce and Windor Avenues in Columbus can be transformed into magnets for business investment.

Community partners have come together to realize the potential of Central Columbus Commerce 71 for bringing economic growth to the South Linden area while improving a blighted site in the neighborhood.

The construction of two light manufacturing or industrial facilities, totaling nearly 625,000 square feet, will help meet strong tenant demand and accommodate a large range of user types and sizes. Already zoned for manufacturing and conveniently located within the I-270 loop, the property will be attractive to prospective companies while bringing jobs and investment to the community.
