Mary and Ray met more than 20 years ago, before dating apps and social media, in a chatroom. They talked for a full year before Mary drove 7 hours to meet Ray in person. They hit it off, moved in together almost immediately, and built a home and a family together.
In 2019, Ray asked Mary to marry him at the 9/11 Memorial. They said "I do" surrounded by a small group of family and friends, never imagining how much those vows would come to mean just a few years later.
In 2024, stomach pain Mary thought was an ulcer turned out to be stage IV cancer. She entered a clinical study and endured 11 difficult months of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, treatment so hard that parts of the past year are simply gone from her memory.
When it stopped working, her doctors moved her to a new regimen. Today, she continues treatment every two weeks, doing everything she can for more time with the people she loves.
Through all of it, Ray has been beside her. Their life isn't defined by cancer. It is filled with what has always mattered most: close friends, camping trips, family time, and their granddaughter.
It was such an honor playing a small role in their love story. We're so thankful for the incredible team of vendors who came together to love on Mary and Ray with their creativity, generosity, and kindness.
