𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐰𝐬, 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭: 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲’𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞!

Remember sweet 6-year-old Briley and her brave fight for a healthy future on all four paws? We have the happiest update to share!

From her initial diagnosis of a soft tissue sarcoma on her paw to specialized surgery at OSU and electrochemotherapy, Briley showed us all what true strength looks like. Through every sedated procedure, vet visit, and bandage change, she remained the sweetest, gentlest girl—and she was never alone.

Her devoted foster mom was right by her side for every single step of this journey, offering comfort, patience, and endless love. Today, we are overjoyed to announce that Briley has officially been adopted by her incredible foster mom, Holly!

While her surgery was a success, Briley's care continues with monitoring and follow-up X-rays every 3 months over the next year to keep her on the path to vibrant health.

We extend our deepest gratitude to her new forever mom for her unwavering devotion to Briley, and to EVERYONE in our community who donated to her fundraiser, shared her story, and sent love her way. Because of your generosity, Hand Me Down Dobes can step up for dogs like Briley when they need us most.

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐚 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐝
𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐚’𝐬 name is short for 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, and every day she proves exactly why she earned it. After being found in a home with her deceased owner in January, this sweet red girl arrived at an Ohio shelter facing a mountain of health challenges. At the start, she suffered from a severe, long-term skin infection that made even the lightest touch painful, and her legs were covered in raw wounds she had licked out of distress. Walking was a visible struggle, characterized by significant swelling and a deeply unsteady gait.

Since our last update in May, Resa has made some truly wonderful progress. She’s been receiving a combination of acupuncture, chiropractic care, Assisi Loop, and an herbal regimen—treatments that have stopped the muscle spasms that were causing her so much pain. The difference in her comfort and confidence is remarkable.

These days, the moment her foster mom and dad open the gate to their special “dog park,”- their backyard, she takes off running with the other dogs down the full length of the fence, though she does get sidetracked sometimes. When she first joined her foster family, she wanted so badly to run with them, but after just a few feet the pain became too much and she would slow to a plod, taking frequent breaks. Now she’s fully engaged and eager to explore whatever the other dogs are sniffing or chasing. She no longer rolls her front paws under, and she can sit comfortably—something she couldn’t do before, when sitting quickly turned into lying down because it was too uncomfortable to hold.

It’s incredibly heartwarming to see her feeling so much better and showing interest in everything the rest of the family is doing. She can now go up and down the stairs more easily, though it's limited to just a few trips each day. She is absolutely living her best life—and yes, she’s a bit spoiled. Her favorite place to “help” foster mom prepare breakfast and dinner is right in front of the counter. She’s not exactly helpful, but she participates with such enthusiasm (just in case something hits the floor) that it’s hard to ask her to move.

Resa truly has the biggest heart, perfectly matched by those big brown eyes that can melt your soul. She seems to understand and appreciate every bit of love and care she’s receiving. Even her vet visits feel like just another adventure in her journey. We couldn’t be happier with the progress she has made.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝: 𝐙𝐚𝐧𝐞’𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠!

When 𝐙𝐚𝐧𝐞 arrived in late February from an Ohio Sheriff’s Department, he was approximately 7 to 9 months old, weighed a heartbreaking 35 pounds, and bore the heavy physical and emotional scars of a brutal past. Based on the pattern of his injuries, it appeared that his mouth had been taped shut and he was used as a bait dog.

Today, we aren't looking at a victim anymore. We are looking at a warrior who fought his way to the loving life he always deserved.

We are beyond thrilled to announce that Zane has officially been adopted by an incredible family!
His journey wasn't overnight. True healing takes patience, endless medical care, retraining, and an extraordinary amount of love. But at Hand Me Down Dobes, our promise is unwavering: No matter how long it takes to rehabilitate a dog and find their perfect match, we keep them for as long as it takes. Every dog gets their second chance, no matter how long the road to recovery is.

To Zane’s incredible new family: thank you for opening your hearts and home to this special boy. To our amazing community of supporters, donors, Zane’s foster parents, and volunteers who made his rescue and rehabilitation possible: you helped write this happy ending.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝!

𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫, a young male Doberman, was originally picked up as a stray in rural Ohio and brought to a local shelter. Hand Me Down Dobes stepped in to pull him, and during his ride to safety, our transport volunteer noticed what a perfect gentleman and total trooper he was the entire trip. She felt the name Trooper was only fitting, and we couldn't agree more—huge thanks to Kerri for giving him such a great name!

We are thrilled to announce that Trooper has officially found his forever home! He was adopted by a wonderful family, and we couldn’t be happier for him as he starts this next chapter.

Today, we take a moment to reflect on the events of September 11th, and honor the lives lost on this solemn day in history.

We also hold space for the extraordinary courage of the first responders—and the brave search and rescue dogs who worked beside them. In the darkest hours, these tireless canines brought hope, comfort, and unwavering devotion to the rubble of Ground Zero, searching endlessly to bring closure and comfort to so many.

At Hand Me Down Dobes, we are forever grateful for the working dogs and human heroes who gave everything that day. May we never forget their sacrifice, their loyalty, and their resilience. 🇺🇸
