October is National Bullying Prevention Month — and for the Autism community, this conversation is critical.

33.9% of students with Autism report being bullied — and these numbers are likely underreported. What every family should know:

— Bullying that crosses into disability harassment is illegal under IDEA and Section 504
— Schools are required to provide a safe learning environment for every student
— Victim shaming is far too common and must be addressed
— Cyberbullying is an emerging issue schools too often dismiss

Every child deserves to feel safe. It starts with teaching tolerance, acceptance, and understanding.

The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley, in partnership with The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, welcomes award-winning national speaker, best-selling author, and Autism consultant Dr. Kerry Magro to Main Library!

Kerry was nonspeaking until age 2½, diagnosed with Autism at age 4, and did not speak in complete sentences until age 7. Today he has spoken at more than 1,400 events, including two TEDx Talks, and serves as an Autism consultant for Netflix's Emmy Award-winning series Love on the Spectrum U.S.

His story is one of resilience, determination, and the power of community — and we cannot wait for you to hear it firsthand.
