Last week we welcomed IU Health to our Marvetta & Anthony Grimes Family Center in Indianapolis as part of their Days of Service projects!

The group took part in an Art for Hope project, reflecting on what community means to them and bringing those thoughts to life through art.

We’re grateful for their time, creativity, and commitment to strengthening our community!

Our own Ro-Ellen Sinkewich, Sr. Director of Strategic Partnerships, recently testified before the Ohio Senate in support of including halfway houses in HB 393, which aims to help individuals obtain state identification before release. Her advocacy helped ensure halfway house programs were included in the bill’s scope.

This legislation requires halfway houses to:
• Provide ID application materials
• Assist residents with gathering required documentation
• Submit applications, photos, and supporting records to the Ohio BMV
• Begin the process before residents complete programming or are released

Having identification can remove barriers to employment, housing, healthcare, and benefits, helping individuals build stability as they return to their communities.

Ro-Ellen’s advocacy is a powerful example of how speaking up for the people we serve can help create lasting change.

HB 393 is co-sponsored by Representative Gary Click and State Rep. Darnell T Brewer - OH22

Our own Cecily King spoke with 14 NEWS on the importance of the Stand Down Homeless Veteran Resource Fair in Evansville.

“These people put their lives on the line for our country,” King said. “There’s no reason why they should even be out here struggling in the first place. So it’s very important for us to give them that security that they need or just a hand up because they gave us a hand out.”

Volunteers of America and the VA hosted the Stand Down event

This , we celebrate her strength and resilience in the face of substance use disorder.
