💚 June is PTSD Awareness Month 💚

PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, and it affects people from all walks of life. While everyone's experience is different, some individuals may turn to substances in an attempt to cope with symptoms like anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, or emotional distress.

PTSD and substance use disorders often occur together, but support, treatment, and recovery are possible. This month, let's help reduce stigma, encourage conversations about mental health, and remind those who are struggling that they don't have to face it alone. 🧠⚕️

June is National Safety Month, a time to focus on simple actions that help keep our community safer, healthier, and stronger. 🛡️

One way you can make a difference is by carrying naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. At MCPC, we encourage community members to be prepared, informed, and equipped to respond in an emergency.

Interested in learning more about overdose prevention? Need naloxone training or free naloxone units?
👉Visit mauryprevention.org/naloxone-info for resources, information, and ways to help save lives.

June is Men’s Health Month. 💙

Mental health is health—and men deserve space to talk about what they’re feeling without shame or stigma.

Too often, men are taught to “tough it out,” stay silent, or hide emotions. But bottling things up can take a serious toll. Mental health conditions and substance use disorders often occur together, and many people use substances to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or loneliness.

Seeking support is not weakness. Talking about emotions is not failure. Checking in on yourself and others can save lives.

This Men’s Health Month, let’s challenge the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and remind the men in our lives that asking for help is a sign of strength. 💚

If you or someone you know could use support, NAMI has compiled mental health resources specifically for men:

Today is ***coDay 🚭

To***co and ni****ne companies deliberately design their products to hook you.

Sugars, flavours, and cooling agents all mask the harshness of ni****ne so you inhale more, and get addicted faster.

But the grip of addiction can be broken. And the benefits are felt almost immediately:
⏱️ In 20 minutes, your heart rate drops
🫁 2–12 weeks, your lung function improves
❤️ In 1 year, heart disease risk is cut in half

Take the next step, break the addiction. Help is available: https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-no-tobacco-day/2026

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave service members who gave their lives in service to our country. ❤️

For many military families, veterans, and loved ones, this day can also bring grief, trauma, stress, and difficult emotions to the surface. As we remember those we’ve lost, it’s also important to continue breaking the stigma around mental health and substance use struggles that impact so many individuals and families connected to military service.

💡 Prevention starts with connection, support, and reminding people they do not have to carry those burdens alone.

If you or someone you love is struggling, mental health and substance use treatment resources are available here: mauryprevention.org/resources

Today, we pause to remember, reflect, and support one another. 🇺🇸

May is Women’s Health Month. 💗

Did you know 50–75% of women experience the “baby blues” after giving birth? While these feelings often improve within 1–3 weeks, persistent or severe symptoms may be signs of postpartum depression. Seeking support is important, and help is available. 🤍

Spring has been full of connection, collaboration, and community impact at the Maury County Prevention Coalition! 🤝🩵

This season, we were grateful to partner with amazing community organizations and schools, including Culver's for another Share Night, Bri’s Homemade Ice Cream for The Closet Collective Prom Boutique, and Highland Park Elementary School during a parent-teacher conference night!

We also had the opportunity to hear directly from local adolescents through a Youth Focus Group, helping us better understand the resources, activities, and changes they want to see in our community. In addition, we continued educating the community on overdose prevention and naloxone awareness. 🗣️💚

This quarter also saw several impactful events, including our Second Annual Strength In Community Conference and the 2026 Maury County Drug Take Back & Wellness Fair. Thank you to every sponsor, volunteer, partner, and community member who helped make these events possible!

A huge thank you goes out to all of our supporters for continuing to advocate for prevention, connection, and positive change throughout our community — we’re excited for all that’s ahead! 🎉💙
