Warm thanks to the dedicated crafters from the Colchester Garden Club who make seasonal crafts for our Meals on Wheels recipients. Those who receive Meals on Wheels are homebound individuals aged 60 or older. These lovely seasonal pick-me-ups remind them that they are remembered and cherished members of the community. We thank the CGC members for their kindness and generosity. 🍁🍃🍂

Happy Fall Y’all! Earlier this week, Jodi led a crafting session to create these adorable Scarecrow Decorations made from paint stir sticks. How clever is that? Hand painted creativity and personal expression made each one a unique piece. I would be proud to display any of them. 🍂🍁🍃

Every year the CBA has a Scarecrow on the Green Contest. This year, CSC draws its inspiration from PEZ, a candy produced right here in CT. Great job to all of the members who worked on this year’s display! 🎃 👻 🔮

Congratulations to Josh, who came in to register for membership and learned he was actually our 3,000th member and we had a prize basket waiting for him. CSC has grown by over 1,000 new members since moving into our new building. I guess the saying is true…if you build it, they WILL come!

Welcome to CSC, Josh! 🥳

Today, I had the honor of speaking at the 4th annual CT Aging & Disability Summit, representing and uplifting the important work of senior centers, in a session entitled “Bloom Where You’re Planted—helping people thrive wherever they reside.” It was a great conference, and I’m very proud to have played a small role.

Our Grand Finale for Senior Center Month was our Groovy Birthday Party. Luckily, our Program Coordinator, Jodi is an incredible baker. How beautiful is this GIANT cake she made for the occasion? Happier Birthdays Happen Here at CSC! 🥳

National Senior Center Month followed the theme “Happier Birthdays Happen Here” and that is certainly true at CSC! But in the spirit of paying it forward, we collected supplies to help make other peoples’ birthdays happier, as well. Yesterday, volunteers gathered to assemble birthday cake kits with donated pans, boxed cake mix, frosting, birthday candles and a lemon lime soda— everything needed to make a shelf-stable cake kit. All told, 57 people/families who use the Colchester Food Bank will enjoy happier birthdays, too. 🎉🎂🥳

Thank you to our volunteers and all of those who generously donated birthday kit supplies. We couldn’t have done this without you.

Oh, the Fun We Had! National Senior Center Month was filled with celebrations throughout September. Daily Disco Ball Searches, Disco Dinner Dances, Birthday Cake Service Projects, and our Grand Finale Groovy Birthday Party. So many ways to celebrate Stayin’ Alive with CSC!

Below are some fun photos of our Disco Dinner Dance, complete with personal tie-dyed cakes. Groovy!

Mystery Art Adventures is our new monthly series where participants show up not knowing what lies in store for them. This month they experimented with mixed media collages, combining text, pattern, pens, paints and more to make creative and whimsical original art. What a great job everyone has done! We thank CSC member Irene W. for leading this fantastic session.
