4-H is a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension which helps youth gain knowledge, self confidence, self esteem and master skills through hands on learning. 4-H youth are guided through projects by adult volunteers. 4-H youth can participate in activities in Schoharie County (dog obedience, Cobleskill Sunshine Fair), at Cornell University (Animal Crackers, Career Explorations), around New York

State (Capitol Days, the NY State Fair), and around the country (Wonders of Washington, Citizenship Focus). Youth who belong to 4-H clubs build social skills, form lasting friendships, and learn from other youth in an informal setting. Clubs can have formal meetings with parliamentary procedure or informal meetings where youth and adults share knowledge and practice skills. Youth who are individual members are encouraged to participate in county wide, state or regional activities. There is no membership fee to become a 4-H member or Cloverbud. Membership is open to all youth regardless of race, color, s*x, national origin or handicap.

As we look ahead to the 2026 Fenimore Farm Junior Livestock Show this July, we’re taking a look back at some highlights from the 2025 show for our Schoharie County 4-H members!

Our youth represented Schoharie County with dedication, sportsmanship, and hard work at the 2025 show. Highlights included top overall honors in dairy, livestock, and showmanship competitions, among other accomplishments.

We are proud of all of our exhibitors and grateful for the time, learning, and effort they put into their projects throughout the year.

We look forward to supporting our members again at the 2026 Junior Livestock Show which will take place July 5-7!

Earlier this month, four youth from Schoharie County 4-H attended the NYS 4-H Animal Crackers program at Cornell University! 🍀💚

🐴🐑🐖🐶 Animal Crackers provides youth with fun, hands-on, science-based learning experiences focused on animal science topics. Throughout the day, participants explored horses, sheep, swine, and dogs while learning about animal care and management from Cornell faculty, students, industry experts, and other professionals.

🚜🌾 4-H Tractor Safety Course 🚜🌾

Throughout the month of April, and ending on May 2, 19 youth participated in the 4-H Tractor Safety Course, a National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program (NSTMOP), offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schoharie and Otsego Counties in collaboration with SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech.

This certification program prepared youth ages 14 and older to safely operate tractors and agricultural machinery through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training.

👏 A huge thank you to Mark Fletcher for instructing the course, SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech, New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health (NYCAMH), and
Schoharie County Farm Bureau for their generous support and donation.

🌟 We are proud of the youth who committed their time and successfully completed this important safety training!
