I promise the silence has had its purpose.
We are okay. But we had to make a big change for the kids.
This has been in the works for a year and so many times I thought it wasn't going to happen.
Before I hear the sentence, "You moved again?"
Know when it comes to the kids, I refuse to keep them in an environment that is causing harm if I have a way to change it. I've lost so many in this herd over the past couple of years where the situations in SC made me feel helpless.
Weeks of the 90° and humidity, outrageous hay prices, and limited large animal veterinary care are just a few of the reasons. And I myself not having any support system within 12 hrs in any direction, was just asking for disaster.
Something had to give.
We never expected to move South Carolina 4 years ago but tried to take it in stride and make the best of it. Because when you run an animal sanctuary and life throws a curve ball, what are your other options?
So last month, we sold our farm in SC and found a more well-suited farm for our needs in NY.
Patience and Dink now have a fully fenced pond that won't dry up. The cows and goats have more pasture than I could ever imagine fencing... giving a huge opportunity for us to finally make our own hay. All of the kitties can fit in one house with us so our semi feral babies can get way more attention and learn how to sleep in front of a warm fire with friends that love them.
It was a big move but so necessary as I have watched our aging herd struggle with the heat and hay quality. And prices I just can't keep up with. Thankfully with some equity from the sale of the farm, I personally donated back the cost of bringing the animals back north to New York and get some hay in the barn before winter. I just wanted you to know that any donations you may have made have gone directly to the animals care and not the move.
I hope this gives you a little better idea of what I have been up to! We are between two mountains and our service is hideous! Our wifi router arrived broken so we are still working on that too!
