Pack 1859

Pack 1859 is a Cub Scout Pack that serves the Little Rocky Run neighborhood and surrounding areas. We are chartered by the Rotary Club of Centreville-Chantilly.

Our spring campout 🏕️ was fantastic! The worst of the rain fortunately held off, so there was lots of time for fun! Scouts got a chance to explore Lake Fairfax Park, including some time fishing, before settling into our site. Our Webelos (4th graders) cooked a fantastic dinner - tacos! Our night included a campfire and a chance to enjoy some s'mores.

This past Wednesday was a big night for our Bears (3rd graders). The boys had their first opportunity to learn about pocket knife safety and try whittling bars of soap! Special thanks to Mr. Harvey of BSA Troop 577 for helping make sure we learned it right the first time!

Last week was our annual Blue & Gold Dinner. We use this time to celebrate our Arrow of Light Den members completing their last advancement and “crossing over” into Scouting (BSA Troop 577). The Arrow Light is the highest award in Cub Scouts. Our younger Cub Scouts were wowed with a Mad Science show as well!

Best wishes to our AoLs as they continue their journey in scouting - may your water bottles be always full and your packs be always light!

🏁 It all started a month ago. All of our cubs were given a kit with a block of pinewood (with axle holes), four nails, and four plastic wheels. From there, the cutting, sanding, and painting began - all to create 5oz (or less) cars, each showing each boy’s creativity. Our Pinewood Derby was a success! Congrats to our winners, and we are proud of all of our boys for doing their BEST! 🏁

Last month, our Lions (kindergartners) finished off their adventure about being good citizens with a visit to Centreville Volunteer Fire Department! 🚒 Our cub scouts enjoyed exploring the equipment and participated in the CVFD Toys for Tots drive. Thanks to our hosts for a great time!

Pack 1859 had a wonderful holiday party during our pack meeting this month. Special thanks to Lrr Santa for stopping by to hand out gifts! Each scout received a Pinewood Derby Car kit for our races next month! Cub scout families also donated several new toys for Santa to take in support of Ellie's Hats! All around a great evening!

Our Webelos Den will be conducting a flag ceremony 🇺🇸 at UMES on Monday Morning (11/10) at 8:20 in observance of Veterans Day. ALL SCOUTS (from any cub scout pack, Scouting America troop, or GSUSA troop ) OF ALL AGES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND IN UNIFORM. Please come show your support for our veterans on Monday. Parents who are veterans are also encouraged to attend. We will attempt a group photo of all scouts and veterans present following the flag ceremony.

Last week, residents of Little Rocky Run found a door hanger tag on their doors announcing Scouting For Food, our annual food drive. Saturday, 11/8, scouts will be collecting, so please have donations out by 8:30am!
If you think you missed your scout, you can drop off donations to LRR Rec 2 until noon.

Last Saturday, about 20 of our cub scouts (and their parents and siblings) marched in the Centreville Day VA parade! Our cub scouts marched down the parade route (followed by our pack trailer) and handed out candy to spectators. After the parade, our cub scouts and their families enjoyed the festivities of the day. Our pack also had a photo booth, sold popcorn, and graciously accepted donations from people from the community. It was a picture perfect day. Thank you, all!

🏕️Our fall family camping trip to Westmoreland State Park was a lot of fun! Scouts got a chance to camp overnight in the beautiful fall weather. Weekend highlights included a hike to Fossil Beach and a Saturday night campfire! 🏕️
