Equines For Freedom

Equines For Freedom EMDR is a treatment of choice for trauma. (www.emdria.org). EquiLateral ™ is an Equine-Assisted EMDR (EA-EMDR) protocol.

Equines for Freedom (EFF) is a nonprofit organization treating Veterans and First Responders who are experiencing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) free of charge, no matter the source of the trauma. The Equines For Freedom treatment team practices equine-assisted EMDR, otherwise known as EquiLateral ™, developed and taught by Sarah Jenkins, MC, LPC, CPsychol. A 2-person treatment

team consisting of an EMDR certified licensed therapist and an equine specialist, joins with a horse in an arena for sessions with clients. EMDR is approved by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) as evidence based treatment and the APA (American Psychiatric Association) as effective for treating symptoms of acute and chronic PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). The Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense also placed EMDR in the ‘A’ category and identified it as ‘strongly recommended’ for the treatment of trauma. We are still doing EMDR, yet also incorporating equine-assisted experiences within the protocol, supporting the client and therapist throughout the eight phases. Additional information about EA-EMDR can be found at www.eaemdr.com

The loss of an entire family of four is a heartbreak that leaves a community utterly speechless. There are no words sufficient to cover the scope of a tragedy where an entire home, a shared history, and a future together vanish all at once.
To lose one life is a profound sorrow; to lose a mother, a father, and their children together is an overwhelming void. We grieve not just for the lives they lived, but for the milestones that will never be reached, the shared laughter that has been silenced, and the memories that were yet to be made.
In moments of such unimaginable pain, the rest of us are reminded of how fragile life truly is, and how deeply we need one another. May their memory be a soft place for those who loved them , and may their family, friends, and neighbors find strength, comfort, and unwavering support in the difficult days ahead.

Public safety uniforms start in many colors. Most central in these various uniforms of service are fire, EMS, law enforcement and corrections. The uniforms have various designs meant to represent the members and image of their agency. In all that variety there is a common ingredient: serving the citizens of the county, city, borough or township where a public servant is employed. All swear to an oath to protect, serve and uphold laws as well as policies.

The above groups share a common bond from working together daily. They face good situations, bad situations and instances where it is unimaginably horrible. A loss in one group affects the others.

The horrible has risen again. For the second time within a year, the Wyoming County Correctional Facility has lost another Member. Today, Sgt. Peter Thatcher and his family passed as a result of a traffic crash in Susquehanna County.

The Members of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office extend their condolences to the extended family of Sgt. Thatcher, to the staff of the Wyoming County Correctional Facility and to everyone who had the honor of knowing Sgt. Thatcher and his family. We hope he and his family find peace with their God.

There are some in social media who are using this tragedy for creating controversy, gaining social media attention or using it for some other inappropriate outcome. Please, let the survivors grieve. There is no need to build yourself on a horrendous loss.

The picture in this post is used with the permission of Sgt. Albert Olive, Wyoming County, PA Correctional Facility.
