Our 10th Annual SOF Missions Emerald Coast Gala is almost here, and we are preparing for an unforgettable evening celebrating impact, resilience, and service.

We’re thrilled to welcome some incredible local talent to help make this milestone celebration even more special!

💃 The talented ladies of First Dance Ballroom Studio, led by owner and instructor Margaret Takacs, will take the floor for a special performance.

🎻🎶 BowTied Music will provide the soundtrack for our evening—beginning with beautiful classical music during dinner and then turning up the energy with favorites from Queen, ABBA, Coldplay, and more. And yes… bring your dancing shoes! ❤️

It will be an elegant and emotional evening filled with great food, music, dancing, and fellowship—but at the heart of it all is PURPOSE.

At SOF Missions, we believe resilience can be built, strengthened, and practiced. That's why the Be Resilient Program equips people with practical tools to navigate adversity, strengthen their mental and emotional readiness, and become more prepared for life's battles.

I wrote this op-ed because veteran su***de is not just a military problem. It’s an American problem.

After more than 20 years in the military, much of it in special operations, I’ve seen incredible courage on the battlefield. But I’ve also seen another war—the one many veterans fight after they come home.

Trauma. Chronic pain. Isolation. Broken relationships. Loss of identity. Loss of purpose.

Too many are fighting that battle alone.

That’s why I wanted to write this piece for CBN. We cannot assume veteran su***de belongs solely to the VA, mental health professionals, or veteran organizations. Those resources matter tremendously—but community matters too.

A phone call matters.
A conversation matters.
Hiring a veteran matters.
Inviting someone to church matters.
Sitting across the table and actually listening matters.

I know firsthand what it means to struggle after war, and I also know the power of having people refuse to give up on you. Purpose changes people. Connection changes people. And sometimes, simply showing up can help save a life.

My challenge is simple:

Meet David Hunter, the newest volunteer with our Regional Support Team in the Florida Panhandle!

David recently joined Kristi at the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce’s First Friday Coffee, representing SOF Missions and connecting with the incredible community we’re so fortunate to be part of.

What makes David’s story even more special is that he’s a warrior himself who has been through our Be Resilient Program. Now, he’s giving back by joining our team and helping support other warriors. We’re incredibly grateful to have David on the team, and beyond grateful for a Panhandle community that continues to show up for our nation’s warriors.

As we get closer to this incredible evening, we’re looking forward to welcoming Major General (Ret.) James S. “Hammer” Hartsell, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, as our keynote speaker.

Major General Hartsell’s lifetime of leadership, service, and commitment to America’s veterans makes him the perfect voice to help us celebrate 10 years of impact, resilience, and purpose at SOF Missions.
