Ruby's Rescue

Ruby's Rescue Saving one dog will not change the world but surely for that one dog the world will change FOREVER!

Ruby's Rescue began with a two-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix named Ruby. She was on death row because the animal shelter she was at could not afford her heart-worm treatment. The volunteers that are now a part of Ruby's Rescue came together and raised enough funds to save Ruby's life. We all became so attached to Ruby that one of the volunteer members opened her heart to Ruby so that she c

ould have a place to call her forever home. Ruby's strong will to live and her forever thankfulness has laid the foundation for Ruby's Rescue.

Slinky is a male dachshund/chihuahua mix around 2-3 years old. This cutie pie loves to cuddle! However, he also needs a home that will give him plenty of physical and mental stimulation - playtime or even something more structured like agility training. He is very well-trained and smart!

Slinky does well with other dogs and ignores cats, but we would not recommend him around young kids. He seems to attach himself to one person in the home (preferably female) and can be territorial towards other humans, so we would ideally like to place him in a single adult or female-only home.

With great sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of Ruby the dog, the namesake of our rescue organization, this morning. We extend our sincerest condolences to her loving parents, Tammy and Wayne, during this incredibly difficult time. 6/30/2009 - 7/23/2025 Fourteen years ago, Ruby entered our lives as a severely traumatized pup, but she flourished under our care, evolving into an extraordinary companion. Her life was a testament to the transformative power of love and compassion. Ruby, you reached the impressive age of 16; we wish you could have lived forever. Your legacy will live on in our hearts. 💔🌈🐾

🙋‍♀️ FAQs:
🔸Why are there so many urgent dogs?
PG County has a breed ban prohibiting its residents from owning terriers (pit bulls). They have few options and must be rescued or adopted by other communities.
🔸Can I adopt outside PG County?
Yes, yes, yes! We depend on it!
🔸How many dogs can I meet?
2 per visit
🔸What’s the adoption fee?
There’s a sliding scale based on weight of the dog (large dogs being less expensive) See shelter website.
🔸 How can I foster an urgent dog?
You can apply through a rescue partner - dogs on the urgent list can’t be fostered directly through the shelter. Post your interest under the dog you’d like to foster or PM us anytime! The list of rescue partners able to pull dogs varies based on their capacity and finances.
