Vittles for Vets - Radford VA We're a 501c3 dedicated to providing grocery gift cards to at-risk, impoverished Veterans in the NRV. That is where the "catch 22" comes into play.

As of June 1, 2022, the Vittles for Vets charity is servicing one hundred forty veterans and their families assisting to their food and nutritional needs. Although the number may seem small in comparison to the total number of veterans living in poverty, the annual cost, per veteran per year is $2600.00, successfully provide weekly gift cards. For a small charity like Vittles, it is an ambitious goal indeed, but I refuse to turn any qualified veteran away. I want to provide this service to as many veterans as possible, but in order to be successful and grow the Vittles charity is totally dependent on the kindness and generosity of the COMMUNITY as a whole. It is only through your generosity this charity will be able to provide and grow. So this charity called "Vittles for Vets" is really YOUR charity and I am nothing more than a facilitator, distributing to our needy veterans the fruits of your kindness and generosity from a grateful American. Please support this most worthy of charities with a donation in any amount. I thank you, your veterans thank you and God bless you.

We are all saddened at the sudden loss of our friend, Jeff Gandee. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our Director of Golf, Jeff Gandee.

Jeff was far more than a leader at Auburn Hills Golf Club. He was a friend, a mentor, and an important part of our Auburn Hills family. His dedication to the course, his love for the game, and the many relationships he built had a lasting impact on Auburn Hills and our community.

Everyone at Auburn Hills is deeply saddened by this loss. Jeff meant so much to so many people, and he will be dearly missed. Auburn Hills simply will not be the same without him.
We will love you forever, Jeff!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeff’s family, friends, and everyone who knew him during this incredibly difficult time.

Arrangements have been made for visitation on Thursday September 10th from 4pm-7pm at McCoy Funeral Home. The service will be held at Blue Ridge Church on Friday September 11th at 11:00 am

Rest in peace, Jeff. You will forever be a part of Auburn Hills.

We get calls from veterans every day that have no family and they're just looking to connect with another human being. We just learned about this service the VA offers that could mean so much to a lonely veteran!

The Compassionate Contact Corps pairs trained volunteers with veterans facing loneliness or social isolation. Volunteers call weekly for 15 to 60 minutes, offering companionship and connection over phone or video. Many volunteers are veterans themselves, but that’s not a requirement to serve.

The program is available at Salem VA Medical Center, one of more than 80 VA facilities nationwide running the corps. It has drawn recognition from the American Red Cross and coverage in national outlets.

The Salem program is currently looking for more volunteers. Veterans and caregivers interested in joining can speak with their VA primary care physician or VA social worker. Those interested in volunteering can contact the Salem VA Center for Development & Civic Engagement office.

For rural veterans especially, isolation can compound the distance from services. A weekly phone call is a small thing that can mean a great deal.

June 29, 2026
Vittles for Vets was honored this past Saturday to have been selected as the recipient of a very generous donation from the New River Valley Jeep Club, Blacksburg, VA.
We were invited to celebrate with the group at their annual club picnic held at the beautiful New River Junction Campground in Blacksburg. Although the day started closely “mimicking” a Vietnam monsoon, with heavy rain relentless, by the start of the event the skies began to clear, temperatures moderated, and the day was salvaged, as evidenced by the group's youngsters heading to the river with inner tubes in tow.
The food served was beyond delicious, with a varied selection including “grilled salmon”, which was a first for me at a cook-out. And it was spectacular.
Combined with some of the friendliest and most welcoming people, we experienced a most wonderful day.
We wish to thank the NRV Jeep Club for their hospitality and their most generous donation of $1785.00 for the purchase of food items for our veterans suffering food insecurity.
Once again, thank you, and Happy and Safe motoring.
With deep appreciation,

Vittles for Vets is participating in the Community Foundation of the New River Valley's annual Giving Day Campaign again this year! We've set a fundraising goal of $5,000 to help us cover the cost of 2 weeks of gift cards to veterans enrolled in our program.

We're thrilled to announce that we have Matching Funds of $2,500 from a private donor to help us reach our goal this year! Every dollar raised will benefit veterans living right here at home.

If you've been thinking about giving this year, contributing to our Giving Day Campaign could also earn us some additional prizes and grants being given away throughout the early-giving period and during the official Giving Day from noon on June 24th - noon on June 25th. We want to wish our fearless founder, Bill McCann, a very happy 80th birthday! He founded this charity with the belief that no veteran should ever be hungry, and 12 years later, we're still working toward that mission.

We hope you get your sweet treat today in celebration, Bill!
