Like many non-profit organizations, Chino Neighborhood House relies on volunteers to provide their food pantry service to the community. Chino Neighborhood House has been at their current location on 6th Street in Chino for over 25 years and in December 2022 through community support was able to purchase the building that they had been renting for over 20 years. However, that building had some deficiencies including the lack of air conditioning in their store and intake/sorting center. Volunteers and board members have continued to work the store, accept food donations, sort, stock and provide all of their services in the heat while continuing to serve with a heart for others. In April of this year, Board President Kevin Cisneroz had the idea to contact a local air conditioning company that he knew grew up in the city, was vested in the city and had a heart for helping others. He contacted Michelle and Jon Metz of Metz Air Control Chino. After sharing the concern of no AC with Michelle Metz, she immediately said yes, they would love to help and that they would send their son Nathan to the store to inspect the old AC unit that they had. Nathan’s inspection confirmed what they had feared, the old AC unit had exceeded it’s life expectancy and was not repairable. In a matter of days Kevin received a call from Jon Metz who informed him that they were going to contact their supplier, ask to have new equipment donated and that they would donate their time to install the donated equipment, pull the permit and provide everything that was needed. Jon and Michelle contacted air conditioning supply store AC Pro in Chino which immediately agreed to donate the approximately $10,000 in new equipment. Metz then contacted Chase, of Chase Electric to ask for his services to run the electrical for the new units. This week, on August 25th those three companies came together to donate, deliver and install new air conditioning equipment to Chino Neighborhood House. Board President Kevin Cisneroz said that many of their volunteers are retired females who put their hearts and time into the mission of Chino Neighborhood House, and that the cool air is going to provide much needed summer time relief from the heat for their volunteers and customers. Michelle Metz said that she couldn’t believe that our volunteers were working in that heat and that Metz Air was thrilled to be able to provide relief to an organization and volunteers that are doing such great work in the community. Mr. Cisneroz stated that the support of community members and local businesses such as Metz Air Control is what makes everything that Chino Neighborhood House does so very special.
