Hey gardeners,

With just 10 days left in this summer's fundraising campaign, we're a bit short of our $2,500 goal. Have you reached out to friends and family for support of all the hard work and success you've accomplished this year?

Please do! Send them to the Indiegogo link below. Contributions large and small are all greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Friends,

As you have seen from the many pictures I post on FB, I have recently helped start a new community garden in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago. In the past year I've worked with several like minded neighbors to turn an abandoned city lot where the Chicago EL Met West line use to run into a functional neighborhood space for community use.

Our deal with the city is that in three years they will review our progress and if good stewardship has been shown they will turn over the land to our 501(c)3 organization. We intend to turn this once desolate trash collecting plot into an urban oasis.

That is where we need your help. Any level of contribution through the Indigogo site is welcome and much appreciated! Donations can be made anonymously and range from $5 to $100.

Time is of the essence, however. Our fundraiser ends in 11 days. Due to the terms of service with Indiegogo, if we don't meet our goal of $2,500 we'll be required to pay a heftier fee than if we clear the goal.

Please take a moment to click through to the site, read more about our story and see pictures of the fantastic progress already made this year.

Thank you!

Friends and fellow gardeners,

The first half of 2012 has seen our garden grow from an idea and an empty lot to a vibrant community space providing food for its member volunteers and beauty for the neighborhood.

With a little bit of cash and A LOT of hard work, we've accomplished more in our first few months of operation than I thought we would accomplish in our first year. It never ceases to amaze me every time I enter the garden, how much progress we've made.

We have a number of projects that we need to accomplish during the remainder of the 2012 growing season that require additional investment, namely:

- Securing our 501c(3), non-profit status
- Purchasing building materials for an on-site, secure shed for storage
- Building and installing a composting system
- Continue garden beautification projects (patio, grass seed, mulch, clean-up efforts, etc)

Please take a moment to review our Indiegogo fund raising site below. With your generous donation you can help the Met West Community Garden continue to keep on enhancing the West Town neighborhood and surrounding community!

And please be sure to share the Met West Community Garden story with your friends and family!

Thanks!

Hello Met West members --- Above you'll find a link to a pdf with some sign options. Please take a look. On another note, Vince has created a Met West Community Garden Group, which you can find by searching in groups on FB. It will make it easier for all of us to keep track of posts about the garden.

W. Atlee Burpee & Co. has created a “Money Garden” seed pack that costs $10 and can produce $650 worth of easy-to-grow carrots, tomatoes, lettuce, beans, peas and peppers. It’s only available online atwww.burpee.com/product/id/112011.do. If your space is limited, consider the Kitchen Garden Planner from Gardener’s Supply Co. (www.gardeners.com/Kitchen-Garden-Planner/kgp_home,default,pg.html) to learn how to get 50 pounds of produce from a three-by-six-foot garden.
