Earlier this week, CDEL Supervising Attorney Cheryl Lipton and Program Coordinator Trevor Otis spent the day with incoming 1L's at The Chicago-Kent College of Law Public Service Day. This is an annual orientation event for incoming first-year law students to perform community service and is organized by the Public Interest Center where students volunteer with local non-profits and legal aid organizations across Chicago.

Fifteen students completed intakes for 8 CDEL clients. Thank you to the students and to Chicago Kent for having us again!

Yesterday, CDEL was joined by volunteers from Federal Signal Corporation for a Transfer on Death Instruments workshop at the Alderman Stephanie D. Coleman - 16th Ward's Office. Five volunteers including CDEL board member Diane Bonina assisted five clients.

CDEL staff and interns braved the rainy weather for the 2026 Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Race Judicata yesterday. We are always glad to support the Chicago legal aid community!

Don't forget to register for our upcoming "Power of Attorney" presentation in partnership with The Center for Disability and Elder Law. This free event will provide an informative presentation explaining how to to legally authorize a trusted person (your agent) to make financial or medical decisions on your behalf if needed. This event is open to everyone in the community, regardless of age, and lunch will be provided.

CDEL is proud to have four staff members in leadership of committees in The Chicago Bar Association! CDEL Legal Director Stephanie Ridella Vittands is the chair of the Mental Health and Disability Law committee. Staff attorney Eva Adams-Ward is chair of the Serving Our Seniors committee. Staff Attorneys Marlo Maria Pahl and Eli Ackerman, Esq. are on the LGBTQIA+ committee with Marlo serving as Chair and Eli serving as Vice Chair.
