“Immigration and Customs Enforcement” is a state project of reproductive violence.
This project has a centuries deep history in the US, one that predates the agency itself and rooted in genocide, enslavement, incarceration, family separation, and murder.
ICE operates on a logic of family separation
and carceral violence, hallmarks of reproductive injustice- ripping apart families and communities, and using borders and cages to enforce this separation.
While the escalated violence of the last months
is certainly traumatic and shattering, it is also a reminder of the immense threat that community organizing poses to projects of reproductive violence. One of the most radical ways we can reject and overcome this violence is by continuing to unite and mobilize against it.
We are inspired by the mothers and caregivers who
are not only directly confronting these oppressive systems, but upholding and advancing practices of care and compassion, enabling us all to envision the world we want- and as we continue to dream, create and tend to our communities, we come that much closer to living in it.
