Thank you to Laurie Clark, Jane Swain, and Laura Radefeld who taught in our Early Childhood program last week. It was lovely having you here on campus with us! This week, our EC students are engaged in speech, gardening, watercolor painting, basketmaking, eurythmy, and, of course, child development, anthroposophy, and the work of the EC educator. And with the start yesterday of our “Approaching Grade Seven” and “Approaching Grade Eight” online courses, Sunbridge’s Summer ‘26 is truly underway!

As the longest day of the year arrives, we welcome the light, warmth, and fullness of the summer season here on campus. From blooming gardens and golden evening skies to the arrival of summer programs and new learning journeys, this time of year carries a special sense of energy and possibility. 🌞

🌿 In Waldorf education, the rhythms of the seasons invite us to pause, observe, celebrate, and reconnect—with nature, with one another, and with the work that nourishes the human spirit.

Last year, several of our Early Childhood students commemorated Juneteenth by traveling into New York City to participate in an Appalachian Mountain Club hike exploring sites significant to Black history and the legacy of slavery. Here, the group visits the Harriet Tubman Memorial in Harlem. ✨

Experiences like these are one of the many gifts of studying at Sunbridge. Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley and just a short distance from New York City, our students have unique opportunities to engage with the rich cultural, historical, artistic, and educational offerings of the region.

Learning at Sunbridge extends beyond the classroom and into the wider world, deepening understanding, connection, and community.

📣 We are happy to announce that Sunbridge Board trustee, Jody Spanglet, has been elected Board president, succeeding Chris Sargente ‘23.

Jody, who joined our board and finance committee in 2024, is currently director of finance at Ashwood Waldorf School. She previously served Ashwood as director, faculty chair, and class teacher, and was also AWSNA’s director of accreditation. Jody started her Waldorf career as after-care teacher at Charlottesville Waldorf School, when her daughter was a student there, and has since pursued 20 years of coursework in Waldorf education and anthroposophical study at AWSNA-accredited institutions. She received a BA in sociology from SUNY Binghamton and her MSEd in Social Foundations of Education from the University of Virginia.
