12 years after it all began, the Ice Bucket Challenge is back where it started.

Executive Director, Mike Pitt, on behalf of PF3 has accepted the challenge from Team Gleason, right at Boston College, where Pete played baseball and helped kick off a movement that changed the fight against ALS forever. And the challenge keeps rolling.

Mike's nominating some heavy hitters: IBC OG and BC classmate, Matt Ryan, the BC Athletics coaching staff, BC Eagles, Boston College Football, Coach Luke Murray, BC M/W Hockey, Lax, and Softball), longtime partner NWN Carousel, Hoops for ALS, the Pardon My Take crew at Barstool (Pardon My Take, Henry Lockwood, Lefty Lockwood, PFT Commenter, Dan Katz - Barstool Big Cat, and Boston legend and Pete's childhood idol, Ray Bourque.

Our silent auction at Willowbend will feature a pair of one-of-a-kind custom cleats worn by Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran during MLB’s 2025 Lou Gehrig Day at Fenway Park.

Designed by on Instagram in honor of Pete and the fight against ALS, the cleats feature Pete dumping an ice bucket above the Nike swoosh, the P3F logo, and the Strike Out ALS logo with the red ALS ribbon.

And the cleats are just one of several exciting prizes that will be up for grabs in our silent auction! 👀

It started with a bucket of ice and a mission to make the world pay attention. 🧊

Back in 2014, Pete Frates and Pat Quinn helped turn the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge into a global movement, bringing unprecedented awareness to ALS and the realities faced by patients and their families.

More than a decade later, that impact continues.

Our Executive Director, Mike Pitt, joined Tanner Hockensmith of the ALS Association to look back at how the challenge took off, the community that rallied behind Pete and Pat, and why continuing to raise awareness for ALS matters just as much today.

Pete showed us what can happen when a community comes together around a cause. We’re proud to keep that momentum moving forward. ❤️

We are deeply saddened by the passing of O.J. Brigance, a champion on the field and a powerful advocate for the ALS community.

After being diagnosed with ALS in 2007, O.J. spent nearly two decades using his voice, his platform and his experience to make a difference for others facing this disease. Alongside his wife, Chanda, he founded the Brigance Brigade Foundation, helping provide critical support, resources and equipment to people living with ALS and their families.

O.J. understood firsthand the realities of this disease, and he chose to turn that experience into a life of service to others.

From all of us at the Peter Frates Family Foundation, our hearts are with Chanda, the Brigance family, the Brigance Brigade community and everyone whose life was touched by O.J.

His impact on the ALS community will not be forgotten. ❤️

The story of Pete Frates and the Ice Bucket Challenge is one that changed the ALS community forever. This special evening brings that story to the stage and celebrates the movement Pete helped inspire, a movement that brought millions of people together and changed the fight against ALS.
