The Summer Clean Water Community Project begins on 6/23 with our partners Cheshire Pollinator Pathway and the Mill River Watershed Association.

The session brings volunteers together to learn how the catch basins works, and how humans as well as salamanders, frogs and fish can be affected by stormwater runoff.

Groups will then place storm drain medallions on catch basins as a reminder, "Only Rain in the Drain."

Each session runs approximately one-hour. Community Service hours are gladly given.

Register for one or more of these sessions at cheshirepollinatorpathway.org

A simple idea rises in darkness, and the world imagines the sky anew.

Imagine a night when cities dim, buildings go quiet, and the sky finally returns to its natural brilliance. With light pollution gone, the Milky Way would spill across the heavens in a river of stars, visible again to billions who have never truly seen it. Space Day wouldn’t just save energy it would reconnect humanity with the universe we belong to.

Stars blooming in silence.
Galaxies waking in darkness.
A planet looking upward together.

Astronomers say even a brief reduction in artificial light dramatically transforms the night sky, revealing constellations, nebulae, and the faint glow of distant worlds. For one hour, the Earth could pause, breathe, and rediscover the cosmic beauty that has inspired myths, science, and imagination throughout history.

One hour without lights and the universe would shine for everyone.

Upcoming Cheshire Public Library program from Cheshire Pollinator Pathway & the Coalition for a Sustainable Cheshire and Friends of the Cheshire Public Library:

Pesticides, Pollinators, People & the Planet.
Neonicotinoids have caught the attention of the public, but they are part of the larger issues with pesticides. For many decades, we have been on the "pesticide treadmill," with each new pesticide promoted as better and safer, until we identify the risks to human health and the environment, and then, ultimately, the target pests become resistant.

Dr. Kimberly Stoner explains why information about pesticide use in our state should be available to the public, so that researchers, policy makers, and concerned citizens can make informed decisions to protect human health and the environment.

Our thanks to the Petit Family Foundation for their generous gift in making this program available to our community.
