Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council - CEIC Join Good People Doing Great Things About the CEIC: Eighteen volunteers are appointed by the Mayor to serve on the governing board. We welcome your comments.

The purpose of the CEIC shall be to promote interest in improving the environment of Chesapeake, Virginia, thereby making Chesapeake a greener, cleaner and healthier city in which to live, work, and visit. The CEIC will accomplish its purpose through outreach, education, and volunteer efforts, to include litter and pollution prevention, waste reduction and recycling, beautification, conservation l

andscaping, and other environmental and conservation issues. However, thousands of other volunteers are actively involved in CEIC projects and sub-committees. Visitors are welcome to attend CEIC monthly meetings. Meetings are held at the River Crest Community Center on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 12 noon. Currently, meetings are held electronically and in accordance with Amended Ordinance adopted by Chesapeake City Council on April 28, 2020, to effectuate temporary changes in certain deadlines and to modify public meeting and public hearing practices and procedures to address continuity of operations associated with pandemic disaster. If you would like to participate in any of these public meetings, please contact Megan Hale at [email protected]. No regular meeting is held during the months of July, November, or December. Join us at City Council on Tuesday as the Mayor presents the Zero Waste Awareness Week Proclamation!

Zero Waste Awareness Weeks is an opportunity to rethink our habits and daily activities to find ways to refuse disposable products, reduce waste, energy, and digital consumption, repurpose and reuse items, repair what's broken, rewear clothing, and recycle effectively.

The proclamation is first on the agenda and the Council meeting starts at 6:30 pm at City Hall, 306 Cedar Road.

As part of EcoFest at the Russell Memorial Libary on Saturday 9/12, there will be a screening of the film "We're All Plastic People Now" at 1 pm. Learn about the impact of plastic pollution on human health.

Mark your calendars for Chesapeake Celebrates Trees, the City's annual Arbor Day recognition will be on Saturday, September 26, 12 - 4 pm, at the Chesapeake Arboretum. Chesapeake is celebrating 40 years as a Tree City USA. The event will include Arbor Day Ceremonies, tree climbing demonstrations, interactive butterfly exhibits, forest bathing, tree trail tours, a food truck, giveaways, and more.
