The Virginia Beehive Distribution Program is now open for applications! 🐝

This program provides free beehive assembly equipment to Virginia residents, to help expand the number of actively managed honey bee colonies throughout the Commonwealth.

If you're interested in beekeeping and want to support the health and diversity of the Commonwealth's pollinators and ecosystems, apply by Sept. 9. 🍯🌼

Swarms usually happen in spring when hives get crowded and split off to find a new home — catching one in August is rare. By now the colonies have usually settled in for the season, so this one caught us as off guard as I was on that ladder.

Spent the day simmering tomatoes into homemade BBQ sauce and ketchup. The kitchen smells like victory (and vinegar).
