Animal welfare is not for the faint of heart.
You get into this field for the love of animals. To be their voice when they have none, to fight for the ones who have been forgotten, and to witness that beautiful moment when an animal finally finds their person.
But there’s another side people don’t always see. The ugly, the scary, the heartbreaking. The cases that haunt you long after you leave work. The animals who come through your doors carrying more pain than they should ever have known. The ones who look at you, and you know that if someone doesn’t step up, their story could end in the worst possible way.
It’s the helplessness, the anger, the tears you hold back, and the weight of knowing that sometimes love alone isn’t enough to save them all.
But we keep showing up. We fight, we advocate, we comfort, and we give them everything we have because they deserve that chance. Every single one of them.
And when the ugly days feel unbearable, we hold on to the happy endings. The second chances. The tails wagging, the purrs, and the animals who finally get to know what it feels like to be safe, wanted, and loved.
Animal welfare breaks your heart in ways you never expected. But everyday, you get to be the reason a life changes forever.
