Sunny 92.3 Wet Nose Wednesday
Clyde 187942
This goofy boy has one of the biggest, sweetest personalities at the shelter, and he may very well be one of the most affectionate dogs here right now. Once you meet him, you’re pretty hard-pressed not to love him. Clyde is wonderfully people-focused without being overwhelming or pushy. He loves attention, but he’s also a gentle, well-mannered guy who knows how to be a good boy. He walks nicely on a leash and isn’t one to drag you around, making him a great companion for leisurely strolls and adventures together. He’s also fairly treat-motivated, so he’s ready to show off just how smart he can be when there are snacks involved! After spending so much time waiting, Clyde deserves a family who will see what everyone who meets him sees: a gentle, affectionate, silly, genuinely wonderful dog who has so much love to give.

Cosmo 188755
Cosmo is quite the fascinating cat! She started off a scared and hissy 2-month-old street kitty, but has developed into a more trusting, sneaky, affection-accepting animal in her foster home - with the assistance of food, playing with feet, her favorite stuffy, and her dog frenemy. Now 5-months-old, she's looking for her perfect home, which would be with patient adult people, as it may take her a minute to get used to a new environment. Her personality and quirkiness will shine through though with time and the promise of a delicious meal! Take a chance on this playful, quirky, and GOREGOUS little lady and she'll reward you with unconditional love!

Meet Chance!

Chance is a big goofy teddy bear with a heart just as big as he is. While he can be a little overlooked in his kennel, the moment he gets outside, Chance's whole personality comes to life. This playful boy absolutely LOVES his time out of the kennel and celebrates with the silliest zoomies you’ve ever seen! He bounds around the play yard like a giant bunny, having the time of his life, and watching him let loose is guaranteed to make you smile.

But underneath all that goofy energy is an incredibly affectionate, people-loving dog. Chance adores attention and will happily lean into you for pets. And despite being a BIG boy, he seems to have no idea that he isn’t a lap dog! Once he’s had a chance to get his zoomies out, Chance turns into the sweetest cuddlebug and will happily climb into your lap for some quality snuggle time. He’s a true gentle giant who seems to know that his favorite place is right next to his person.

Chance can be energetic, especially when he first comes out of his kennel, but once he gets some exercise, he settles nicely and walks well on leash.

Chance doesn’t need anything fancy. He just needs what every sweet shelter dog dreams of: a comfy couch, a yard to run around in, a person to love, and plenty of pets. If you’re looking for a big, affectionate goofball who will make you laugh with his zoomies and then curl up beside you like an oversized lap dog, Chance might just be your guy.

Say hi to some of the new kids on the block, now available for adoption at HES:
🤍Tux: 6-month-old cattle dog/poodle mix. A part of an accidental litter, Tux hasn't had a lot of human socialization, so he's on the shy side, but is very sweet and playful when he feels comfortable. He just needs to learn and experience more kind humans and we know he'll be a great dog!

🖤Athena: 2-year-old pittie mix. She is an affectionate wigglebutt that seems to like everyone! She's lived with kiddos in the past and did well with them, but may prefer to be the only furbaby in her forever home.

🧡Smoothie: 10-month-old pittie mix. Smoothie is total cuddlebug! So sweet and snuggly, she will crawl into your lap at any chance she gets! Very gentle and submissive, she will likely do well in nearly any home!

🩷Elsa: 11-year-old Shih Tzu. Elsa is a senior girl whose owner passed away and is looking for a cozy place to spend the rest of her days. She lived with other dogs and cats in her previous home and did well with them. She is potty and crate trained, according to her previous family, and is a loving and low-key girl.

Interested in these babies or any of the other 100+ dogs looking for forever homes at HES? Come meet them at the shelter this week!

The Golden Paw Award is a monthly recognition honoring volunteers who go above and beyond in their dedication to our shelter and the animals we serve, nominated and voted on by shelter staff and volunteers.

This month, we are thrilled to recognize Christian Bikle as our Golden Paw Award recipient! 💛

Christian is one of our newer shelter volunteers, but he certainly didn’t ease into volunteering - he jumped in with both feet (and plenty of helping hands)! He is consistently one of the first people to answer the call when we desperately need extra hands on deck at the shelter, especially when it comes to helping with the day-to-day animal care and cleaning that keeps everything running smoothly. And somehow, he manages to do it all with a smile on his face!

But Christian’s contributions don’t stop when he walks out the shelter doors. He is an incredibly creative problem solver who has a knack for noticing the little things that could make life easier for our staff and volunteers. Without being asked, he has donated his time, skills, and 3D-printing talents to creating solutions for some of our everyday shelter challenges. He has made specialized holders for our laundry detergent jugs to make tackling our mountains of daily laundry a little easier, clips designed specifically for our various garbage cans to make taking out the trash less of a hassle, and wall-mounted holders for the many, MANY boxes of disposable gloves our staff go through every day, and so much more! Christian sees a small problem, thinks, “I bet I can fix that,” and then actually does!

And, as if being a dedicated volunteer, talented problem solver, and resident shelter engineer weren’t enough, we have also recently discovered that Christian is a phenomenal cook and baker! He routinely shows up with homemade goodies for our staff and fellow volunteers, and his treats never fail to bring smiles to everyone’s faces.

Christian has quickly become such a wonderful part of our HES volunteer family. Whether he is scrubbing kennels, solving a shelter “problem” with a 3D printer, or showing up with something delicious for everyone to enjoy, he consistently finds ways to make HES a little better, and a whole lot happier!

Christian was nominated by two separate volunteers who said the following:

“Christian sees a problem and creates a solution. Without prompting, he spends his own time designing and 3D printing helpful things. Not only is he enthusiastic about helping around the shelter, he's going the extra mile to solve the everyday annoyances that we all spend time working around. His friendly demeanor, creative spirit, and problem solving are such great traits that we really hope to find in our volunteers.

Chris is such a valued member of the volunteer team. He jumps right in wherever needed and for whatever tasks are needed, changing his schedule to help fill needs, and does so with a smile. His dedication is truly inspiring to us all, staff and volunteers. PS - He even made lunch for everyone on Labor Day!”

Christian has quickly become such a wonderful part of our HES volunteer family. We truly appreciate everything he does for our shelter, our staff, our volunteers, and, most importantly, the animals in our care. We can’t wait to see what shelter problem he and his trusty 3D printer decide to tackle next!

It's National Vet Tech Week!
Our medical team may be small, but it sure is mighty! Licensed Vet Tech Olivia and vet assistants Laura, Heather, and Rebecca are responsible for the medical care of every animal in HES custody. In a job that is fast-paced and ever-changing, each one fills their roles with expertise, compassion, and so much heart.

We are incredibly thankful for their tireless efforts and dedication to our mission - we couldn't do this work without them!
