Congratulations to two longtime members of the TVIB community, Lee Nelson and Bruce McGinnis, on being named among The Seamen’s Church Institute’s 2026 River Bell Awards Luncheon honorees.

Lee Nelson, President & CEO of Upper River Services, will receive the River Bell Award, and Bruce McGinnis, CEO of McNational, Inc., will receive the River Legend Award.

Both Lee and Bruce have been part of TVIB’s story from the beginning.

In 2017, Lee signed on as one of TVIB’s earliest supporters, helping us build our model and shape the future of the organization. He has also served as TVIB’s Board Chair, and his continued support, along with that of Upper River Services, has played an important role in TVIB’s growth.

Bruce and McNational have likewise supported TVIB since our earliest days and have remained part of the organization throughout our growth.

The photo below takes us back to 2017, when Lee signed his agreement with TVIB alongside Tava Foret and Mike Rushing.

We’re proud to see two people who have played such an important role in TVIB’s history receive this recognition from SCI. Congratulations, Lee and Bruce.

On World Maritime Day 2026, TVIB joins the global maritime community in recognizing the people, standards and practices that help keep our waterways safe and our industry moving forward.

Registration is open for TVIB’s Drydock and Internal Structural Examination (DD/ISE) Certification Course, taking place November 3–5, 2026 in Paducah, Kentucky.

This course is designed for surveyors seeking the knowledge and training needed to conduct drydock and internal structural examinations under Subchapter M, including those pursuing TVIB’s DD/ISE surveyor endorsement.

Participants will build their understanding of vessel structure, drydock examinations, internal structural examinations, reporting requirements, and the responsibilities associated with conducting these examinations.

Registration is open for TVIB’s Drydock and Internal Structural Examination Certification Course, taking place November 3–5, 2026, in Paducah, Kentucky.

This three-day course is designed for marine surveyors, naval architects and engineers, Coast Guard marine inspectors and investigators, port engineers, shipyard personnel, survey program managers and other experienced professionals involved in towing vessel examinations and repairs.

Participants will learn how to conduct drydock and internal structural examinations for Subchapter M compliance, prepare examination reports, evaluate vessel conditions, understand each party’s role in the process and develop corrective action plans that meet TPO and Coast Guard expectations.

This three-day course is designed for auditors seeking TVIB certification to perform external Subchapter M TSMS and AWO Responsible Carrier Program audits. It is also beneficial for marine executives, HSE and operations managers, safety consultants, regulators and others seeking a deeper understanding of Subchapter M compliance.

Participants will learn how to audit towing safety management systems and vessels using TVIB’s audit process, with practical exercises focused on auditing techniques, management systems and regulatory requirements.
