We’re honored to announce that the recipient of the 2026 Celestine Park Distinguished Service Award is Jason Merkel!

If you've attended an event in Celestine or surrounding communities, chances are you've seen Jason—prepping, cooking, and making sure we serve the best food around!

Whether it's Streetfest, Strassenfest, Celestine Park BBQs, soup making, Celestine Community Club Shooting Matches, the CVFD Tractor Pull, CVFD Christmas Dinner, St. Isidore’s Youth Lent Fish Fry, or a special fundraiser, Jason is a key ingredient. His dedication extends beyond Celestine, too—we're happy to share him with St. Anthony, where he's just as willing to lend a hand.

What many don't see is the time Jason spends before and after organizing these events to make sure they run smoothly. He spends countless hours planning, shopping, ordering supplies, and pricing food. When the event is over, he's still there—cleaning up, putting things away, and making sure everything is ready for the next time.

His dedication also extends well beyond the kitchen. Jason served on Celestine's 175th Executive Committee, helped with Celestine Park renovation, is actively involved with Christmas in Celestine, and is currently pursuing new "Welcome to Celestine" signs.

Jason's quiet leadership, generous spirit, and unwavering commitment to our community make him a truly deserving recipient of this prestigious award. But if you ask Jason, he'll tell you he couldn't do it without his wife, Kaddy, and daughter, Madelyn, who are always there helping too.

Congratulations, Jason, and thank you for everything you do to make Celestine such a special place!

It is that time of the year once again...time to nominate Celestine's finest for the 34th annual Distinguished Service Award!

Celestine is a terrific community and there are many people residing here who make our community better each and every day. To recognize these efforts, the Celestine Park Inc. will host the 34th annual Distinguished Service Award. We will once again be hosting this year’s awards ceremony during the Celestine Streetfest, which will be held on June 27th, 2026. The presentation will begin at 5:00 p.m.
