September 28 is World Rabies Day.

Rabies is a viral disease most often found in wild animals like raccoons, skunks, bats, and foxes. It is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is preventable with quick action.

Our Environmental Health team works every day to protect you by:

-Investigating animal bites and exposures.
-Coordinating rabies testing.
-Ensuring pets are vaccinated against rabies.
-Educating our community on prevention.

If you, a family member, or a pet may have been exposed to rabies, contact your local Environmental Health Office or Animal Control right away.

Poll worker training for the upcoming November 3rd General Election will take place on Saturday, October 3rd, from 10:00am-2:00pm in the Commissioners Meeting Room, with make-up training dates available, if necessary.

PRESS RELEASE: Polk School District Achieves Record-High Graduation Rates

Cedartown, GA – September 28, 2026 – Polk School District is proud to announce historic achievements in its four-year graduation rates, reflecting the hard work and dedication of students, families, teachers, and staff across the district. Both Cedartown and Rockmart High School exceeded the state graduation rate of 88.5%.
For the Class of 2026, Polk School District’s overall four-year graduation rate reached 93.7%, the highest in district history. Both high schools in the district also reported outstanding results:
Cedartown High School achieved a graduation rate of 93.3%, its highest ever.

Rockmart High School achieved a graduation rate of 94.4%.
“The commitment to preparing each student for the next stage of their lives is core to Polk School District's purpose”, said Superintendent Mark Lumpkin. “These historic numbers are more than just evidence of the success of having Cedartown and Rockmart High School students receive a diploma; they represent the investment in our schools and the future of our community. Our students, staff, and teachers work each and every day to ensure students who walk across the graduation stage have the academic preparedness, career awareness, and workplace readiness that PSD values. We are proud to continue to beat the State of Georgia as a school system in this and many other areas.”
