Happy National Pet Day 2026 🥳

This is a day focused on bringing awareness to how many wonderful ways pets contribute to our lives. The event seeks to increase adoptions at shelters and rescue organizations (as opposed to purchasing a pet).

In celebration of National Pet Day, post a picture of each of your pets below 🎉

This is Danny, a 2 year old Husky mix at CARES still waiting on his forever home.

No this is not AI…this is a real picture of Danny showing you how much he loves life ♥️

Danny is friendly, full vetted and ready for his new home. 🏡

Contact CARES at [email protected] to adopt Danny or one of our other precious pups awaiting a home!

201 days ago we adopted our last dog.

TWO HUNDRED AND ONE DAYS AGO...

September, 2025...

Adoptions have slowed for years. Now they are almost non-existent. Sadly, we cannot continue to save animals if we are unable to place the ones who are already vetted and ready for homes...

We have had to discontinue the Saving Shelter Dogs Program as we are having trouble just managing the ones we already have here.

Donations are down. we have zero outside fosters and adoptions are almost non-existent . WE NEED HELP

On a brighter note, here is Cruiser, a fully vetted purebred Jack Russell Terrier available for adoption through CARES. He is a tri-colored, 11 pound bundle of energy. He gets along well with dogs, enjoys playing in a fenced yard and loves balls. He was born April 30, 2024 so he is almost two years old. Sadly his previous owner passed away unexpectantly so he is looking for a new forever home.

Please contact CARES at [email protected] to adopt Cruiser.

A great read ♥️

A great read ♥️

PHILADELPHIA –- In a new, year-long University of Pennsylvania survey of dog owners who use confrontational or aversive methods to train aggressive pets, veterinary researchers have found that most of these animals will continue to be aggressive unless training techniques are modified.

Georgia is still looking for her forever home...

Returned to CARES after the adopter passed away, Georgia is a beautiful fawn, female Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. She is currently 13 pounds but needs a exercise plan to lose a few 🤣. Georgia can be slow to warm up at first (she was originally rescued out of a hoarder house where she was handled roughly) so she would need an adopter who gives her time to be comfortable with new people and a new environment. She is 11 years old and gets along well with other dogs. Georgia is best suited for a home with a safe, fenced yard.

Georgia has now been at CARES since January, 2025 😭Her Christmas wish is to be someone's lap dog and have her very own home before Christmas 🏠 Let's make that happen!

Danny has spent the past several days at our vet having his immiticide injections. This is the last phase of his heartworm treatment on his journey to be healthy. He will now have to be crate rested for a month and then can go to his new forever home 🏡

* Copied from Animal Life

“MRI studies have revealed something amazing about dogs. Their love for their owners goes beyond food, toys, or even other dogs. Scientists discovered that when a dog smells its owner, a special part of its brain actually lights up more than it does when the dog smells food or another animal.

This part of the brain, called the caudate nucleus, is connected to feelings of love and reward. The reaction is so strong that it shows dogs aren’t just recognizing a familiar scent, they’re feeling joy and affection.

It proves that when our dogs look at us or come running to greet us, it’s not just habit. Deep inside their brains, they truly love us, in a way that’s powerful and real.”
