The DCVMF Veterans Assistance Grant is here for Douglas County veterans facing a gap the bigger programs don't cover: up to $4,000 for areas of hardship, quality of life, transportation, and more. 🇺🇸 A special moment of service, commitment, and transition. 🇺🇸

A huge thank you to Josh Savitt for choosing Freedoms Keeper for this meaningful occasion. It was an honor to be part of an Oath of Enlistment marking the transition from the Air Force Reserve to the U.S. Space Force as part of the Guardians on Non-Sustained Duty (GNSD) program.

Moments like this remind us that service takes many forms, but the commitment to our nation remains constant. We’re proud to help honor those who raise their right hand and answer the call to serve.

The stones in our wall come from the Historic Court House that burned in 1978, and each of the six service seals and the POW flag stands as a promise: we will never forget. Today we recognize National Airborne Day and the fearless paratroopers who "stand up, hook up, and shuffle to the door" in defense of freedom. Since the first official Army parachute jump in 1940, airborne forces have answered the call from the skies in every major conflict. To all the airborne veterans in our community, thank you for your courage. All the way!

On this day in 1945, the world celebrated victory and the end of World War II. August 14 is also National Navajo Code Talkers Day, honoring the Native American Marines whose unbreakable code helped secure that victory in the Pacific. We remember the Greatest Generation — those who served on the front lines and on the home front — and the courage that brought peace to a war-weary world. Their legacy of service lives on in every veteran we honor today.
