Thanks to a 2025 Community Impact Grant, Friends of Disabled Adults and Children provided more than 70 refurbished, like-new medical equipment items to 45 individuals with disabilities across Carroll, Haralson, and Heard counties at little to no cost to those served.

Originally designed to serve seven mothers, the program expanded to meet a growing need, ensuring more women received support for substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges during and after pregnancy.

Using percussion instruments, students practiced rhythm and counting while also exploring concepts like pitch, timbre, and sound waves. Along the way, they strengthened coordination, focus, and memory through active, engaging learning.

Students created their own music and collaborated as a class to build different compositions, using simple math skills like addition to shape rhythm patterns.

And sometimes, the best learning moments were the simplest ones. Watching kindergarteners realize the drum was an extension of their lap brought plenty of laughs and helped unlock the next level of learning.

Students learned how to properly light and capture portrait photography, then wrote detailed descriptions of their images and asked AI to recreate them. Even with careful attention to lighting, features, and composition, the results rarely matched the original.

The project became an eye-opening lesson on the difference between human creativity and artificial generation. It also sparked new ideas beyond the art room, with English teachers excited to use the concept to help students visualize scenes and characters from literature.

Thanks to a 2025 AHR Art Enrichment grant, Susan Davis at West Haralson Elementary School helped ensure every student had their own art supplies, unlocking more time, creativity, and confidence in the classroom.

With individual supply kits and new materials funded through the grant, students fully engaged in the creative process without interruption. The result was thoughtful, high-quality work across every grade level.

This yearโ€™s art show, held on Veterans Day, featured student-created pieces inspired by patriotic colors and symbols. It became a meaningful showcase of both creativity and community, enjoyed by families and visitors alike.
