Thanks for all the likes over the past year or more . Unfortunately we've received zero possible new sightings or possible encounters from our home town here in Cape Girardeau nor the southeast Missouri area in general.
The purpose of this page was always meant to be nothing more than a place locals could share their possible encounters of this mysterious winged humanoid with the community.
I never thought Mothman was a good name for this cryptid with reports going back 100s of years worldwide of similar creatures being spotted but decades ago Point Pleasant coined it as Mothman and that bridge incident definitely became its reputation so mothman. stuck and i chose to use mothman for this page due to name recognition. It really looks nothing like a moth .
Seems to be closer to a giant bat with human features or a grotesque most commonly called a gargoyle in pop culture.
I'm glad we've received no reports opposed to made up ones from people wanting some attention and I really expected a few but very impressed we had zero . This page has been slow for that very reason but will remain up permanently and if nothing else this page has informed people of these two sightings both in the red star district area of cape girardeau and only months apart. Please encourage friends and family to like this page and to come forward should they see anything. You can report anonymously if you choose and remember as ridiculous as this sounds , all throughout human history humans have believed in some sort of winged humanoid creature . Angels , cupid , gargoyles , there's ancient drawings of them. this is nothing new and I'm sure the answers aren't all that easy . I favor 4th dimensions, alternate realities, spirit world , etc , over just some unknown never discovered winged man or woman . That's just my thoughts though and scientifically the body size in comparison to the wings don't seem that it would be able to fly logically .there's nothing more fascinating than the unknown.
