🌧️ Floods happen quickly. Roads disappear. Power goes out. Entire communities become cut off in minutes.
As the water rises in communities across Texas and the South, here are a few things every family should know:
✅ Know your risk. Learn your flood zone, evacuation routes, and where to get local emergency alerts.
✅ Never drive or walk through floodwater. Turn Around, Don’t Drown. The road may be washed out beneath you, and moving water is stronger than it looks.
✅ Move to higher ground early. Don’t wait until water reaches your door. If officials tell you to evacuate, do so.
✅ Build a go-kit. Include water, nonperishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, phone chargers, cash, important documents, and pet supplies.
✅ Have a communication plan. Know who you’ll call, where you’ll meet, and how you’ll check in if cell service is limited.
✅ Stay out of floodwater after the storm. It may contain debris, sewage, chemicals, downed power lines, or other hazards.
✅ Check on your neighbors. Prepared communities save lives.
