GOOD MORNING, FIGHTIN FIFTH!
WWP Cape Cod Soldier Ride 2026

Happy June! I hope everyone has a wonderful month ahead.

I also wanted to give everyone a heads up that the Wounded Warrior Project is bringing 50 wounded veterans to Cape Cod for the 15th year in a row. These warriors come from all across America. Some carry visible wounds, while others continue to battle the emotional scars of service. Thanks to the Wounded Warrior Project, they are flown to Massachusetts and brought to Cape Cod for four days of healing, camaraderie, and cycling.

Each year, a different group of veterans participates, and our communities do an incredible job making them feel welcomed, appreciated, and loved.

On Thursday, June 4—the opening ceremony featuring the Singing Trooper Dan Clark—begins at 9:30 a.m. at Buzzards Bay Park in Bourne. The riders will then travel along the Cape Cod Canal on the mainland side, turn around at Scusset Beach State Reservation, and return to Buzzards Bay.

On Friday morning, they will ride in Falmouth along the Shining Sea Bikeway, where residents traditionally come out in force to show their gratitude and support.

If you can, please consider stopping by one of the rides. Wave a flag. Make a sign. Bring your family. A simple show of appreciation means more than you can imagine to these warriors and their families.

This is one of the finest events of the year. The Wounded Warrior Project covers all travel, lodging, meals, and program expenses, allowing these veterans to focus on healing and connecting with one another.

We are proud to support this outstanding program and the brave men and women it serves.

Hope to see you Thursday or Friday.

Residents may notice small rectangular sachets with a strong odor on the ground in the coming weeks. The stinky sachets are oral rabies vaccine baits distributed by the Cape Cod & Southeast Massachusetts Rabies Task Force (CCSMRTF), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and town and federal employees.

Distribution of the vaccine baits began in the towns of Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth, Barnstable, Plymouth, Wareham, Carver, Kingston, Middleborough, Rochester, Mattapoisett, Marion and Lakeville on Tuesday, May 5. The purpose of the vaccination process is to reduce the number of rabid animals, particularly raccoons.

The packet contains a rabies vaccine that inoculates an animal eating it and has an odor that attracts wildlife.

Bjorklund said that approximately 75,000 coated sachet oral rabies vaccine baits will be distributed in Plymouth and Barnstable counties this spring. Aerial operations will begin on Tuesday, May 12, and will continue for approximately three days, weather permitting.

This is just a friendly reminder that construction on the Bourne Bridge will begin on Monday, April 27th. Travel will be restricted to one lane in each direction 24/7. This is expected to cause significant traffic delays, especially during peak travel times. Please plan to add extra time for your commutes. The lane restrictions will remain in place for for the duration of the project, which is expected to be through May 20th.

No wide loads will be permitted to cross the bridge while the lane restrictions are in place.

Also, the sidewalk will be closed to pedestrian traffic through May 4th.

See additional information in the attached press release from the US Army Corps.
