Gateway Special Recreation Association promotes the full participation of people with disabilities through meaningful therapeutic recreation activities.

Gateway SRA promotes the full participation of people with disabilities in meaningful recreational and cultural activities and sports programs, camps and services that maximize their health, well-being and quality of life. Formed through an intergovernmental agreement, Gateway is an extension of the park districts of Burr Ridge, Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Pleasant Dale, Westchester and York Center, the

What an incredible weekend for our Gateway SRA Gators at the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games in Bloomington!

Our athletes represented Gateway SRA with courage, determination, sportsmanship, and Gator Pride. Months of hard work and dedication led to unforgettable memories, amazing accomplishments, and moments we will be celebrating all summer long.

🌎✈️ Elevate took a trip around the world this week… no passport required! 🐊💚🌄

From reaching for the stars to exploring new cultures, our Elevate crew spent the week learning, growing, giving back, and making memories together.

🌌 Monday: We reached for the stars at the Adler Planetarium.

🧘 Tuesday: We focused on health and wellness through fitness, yoga, and a little friendly competition with disc golf.

🧠 Wednesday: We built independence and confidence through life skills activities.

🤝 Thursday: We gave back to our community by volunteering at Feed My Starving Children.

👨‍🍳Friday: We became chefs for the day, shopping for ingredients and preparing a delicious international meal featuring chicken gyros, lemon potato wedges, and World Cup cupcakes!

One week. Five adventures. Endless memories.

🌸 Exploring the beauty of the Chicago Botanic Garden

📚 Discovering new stories at the Elmhurst Public Library

🎨 Creating masterpieces during arts and crafts

🎼 Experiencing the magic of music with John Williams in Tokyo featuring the Saito Kinen Orchestra

⭐ Traveling to a galaxy far, far away with the new Star Wars movie before enjoying lunch with friends at Buffalo Wild Wings

Whether we were surrounded by flowers, books, music, creativity, or movie magic, our Elevate participants spent the week learning, exploring, and having fun together.

😎☀️🍔 We lifted, we learned, we served, we played... and we grilled our way into summer!

After taking Monday to honor and remember those who served our country, Elevate jumped right back into an incredible week of fun, growth, and friendship.

💪 Tuesday: We got moving with fitness and pool time.

🧠 Wednesday: We focused on building important life skills.

🤝🍦 Thursday: We gave back through volunteering and celebrated with some sweet ice cream treats.

🌭🍔 Friday: We fired up the grill for a traditional cookout filled with hamburgers, hot dogs, outdoor games, sunshine, and smiles.

Every week at Elevate is built on new experiences, meaningful connections, and opportunities to grow—and none of it would be possible without our amazing team members who bring energy, encouragement, and FUN to everything they do.

🌸✨ And just like that… our Spring Season has come to an AWESOME close at Gateway SRA! 🐊💚💃🕺

We wrapped up the season last night dancing the night away at our Spring Formal 💃🕺✨ — the perfect ending to months filled with laughter, friendship, sports, adventures, creativity, and memories BUILT together.

From weekly programs and Travelers trips to fitness, social clubs, Gators athletics, and Elevate adventures, this spring season reminded us once again what makes Gateway SRA so special… the PEOPLE. ❤️

A HUGE thank you to our incredible team members who continue to bring the energy, patience, creativity, encouragement, and FUN to every single program. You are the heart behind the memories and the reason our participants shine so brightly. 🧩💚

And while many of our weekly spring programs are taking a short break… we’re FAR from slowing down! 👀☀️

This week, our Elevate crew kept building AWESOME adventures all across the community! 🐊💚✨

🏙️ Monday: We explored the city on a Chicago Architecture Tour and checked out some seriously incredible buildings!
🧘 Tuesday: Fitness day brought yoga, swimming, movement, and positive vibes!
🛠️ Wednesday: Life Skills Day helped us level up independence, teamwork, and everyday success skills.
❤️ Thursday: Our crew volunteered at Feed My Starving Children and helped make a difference one meal at a time.
👨‍🍳 Friday: Cooking with friends was a TOTAL hit featuring homemade Philly Cheesesteak Sliders! 🔥🥖🧀

From city adventures to giving back to the community, this week was packed with teamwork, laughter, growth, and unforgettable moments.
